irc is this bitchy little service thrown together by a bunch of whiny aolers
who wanted
some kinda forum so they can shoot the shit with people just like
them all over the world.
if you haven’t figured it out already, the internet is filled with useless
crap.
there are however some good channels on the irc. #hack is good, some
times i can cope with the
#warez ones… for these select reasons, irc can
be ok.
things worth figuring
out: gcc. good way to get files from the internet,
whatever they may be. bots. once you get
your bots online, you can auto boot
people, hold channels open and have someone to deal with
all the menial shit
you don’t want to deal with. most servers don’t like bots because
idiots
tend to abuse them. if you find a script you like, set it up custom to fit
your
needs.
people ask me all the time how to get ops on channels, especially the invite
just as long
as you don’t act like a dick and say some stupid shit, chances
are, someone will give it to
you. /msg them…
if you don’t have a good reputation, or you don’t know someone who’s
an op
already, try to find a server that is split from the rest of irc and create
your
own channel there with the same channel name of the one you want ops
on. this way, when that
server reconnects, you’ll have ops on the real
channel. this works for getting into +i
channels as well. further note: if
you have server op on a server, you can cause it to split
on purpose. 
the only real problem with this is that most of the cool channels have
auto
boot set up so that any name they don’t recognize as an op, they boot, or
worse,
+b, you from the channel. be wary of this so you don’t ruin the rep
for your nick.
