Café. Our menu explores the many facets of hemp seed food and

we’ve decorated the whole joint with hemp and marijuana memorabilia, and

we’ll even be playing a wide selection of marijuana music for you to enjoy.

What’s
a Vapourizer?

A Vapourizer is
a
device which heats a marijuana bud just enough so that the THC and other
psychoactive
ingredients turn to steam or "vapour". The Vapourizer temperature
is not high enough
to produce combustion or fire, so no carbon monoxide
or harmful gases are produced, and about
8 times less tar is released than
if you were to set flame to the plant
matter.

Applying direct flame
to a bud also destroys much of the THC and other
active ingredients, which
are consumed by the fire instead of being turned into a gas. The
Vapourizer
gently heats these psychoactive compounds until they become a gas, and
then
collects them in a chamber for your enjoyment.

Vancouver’s restrictive
city bylaws
prohibit smoking in restaurants, but vapourizing is not smoking,
as there is no combustion and
no smoke.

Is
this legal?

Owning and selling

marijuana are still against the law everywhere in Canada. Despite this,
there have been very
few arrests for possession of marijuana in Vancouver
over the past two years. The Vancouver
Police Department has even announced
that they will not press charges for simple possession of
any drug, unless
there are aggravating factors.

Vancouver is the
most tolerant city
in Canada when it comes to the use of marijuana, and
the Cannabis Café hopes to
extend that tolerance and create a sanctuary
for cannabis culture from around the world. The
Cannabis Cafe is not Vancouver’s
first "above-ground" safe haven for pot smokers. In
December of 1996, the
Harm Reduction Club opened a marijuana store in the suburb of
Burnaby,
which enjoyed a thriving and well publicized business for over two months,

before being shut down by the RCMP at the end of February.

Marijuana was not

officially tolerated in Amsterdam when coffeeshops began to open there.
The first coffeeshop
was called Mellow Yellow, and they managed to remain
open despite harassment and arrests, so
soon other places opened up and
followed their example. We hope to lead Vancouver towards this
kind of
reasonable policy.

Do
we ever get busted?

The Cannabis
Cafe
has been raided by police twice. Former owner Marc Emery and a former manager
have
been charged with "promoting vapourizers", but no other charges have
been laid.
Current owner Sister Icee faces charges of selling pipes through
Hemp BC, but faces no charges
in regards to the cafe. No customers have
ever been charged or incarcerated. />

What
kind of food do we
serve?

The Cannabis Cafe
serves lovingly prepared fresh foods and
juices. Our current menu includes
soups, salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and hemp burgers. We are
proud to announce
that all menu items contain hemp seed in the form of oil, flour, milk,

hemp-tofu, or any of many other yummy items.

What’s
so good about hemp
seeds?

Hemp seeds are nutritious
and delicious. They can be pressed
for oil, ground into a flour, or eaten
whole.

Hemp seeds are an
excellent source
of protein, which are found in a form which is easily
absorbed into the human
body.

Hemp seeds also contain
essential fatty acids and amino acids in a ratio
which is perfect for human
health. These acids are recognized immune system boosters, and are
generally
missing from the North American diet.

Hemp seed is also
high in vitamins C
and E, plus B vitamins and carotene, as well as being
rich in chlorophyll, magnesium and
potassium.

Hemp seeds contain
no THC and are not psychoactive.

sterilized
hemp seeds are totally legal in Canada, but that unsterilized seeds retain
a
higher portion of their essential fatty acids, and also better maintain
their nutritional
vitality.

Do
we serve meat or
alcohol?

The Cannabis Café
is completely vegetarian,
and also alcohol and tobacco free. We aim to
promote healthy lifestyle choices. We do have a
comfortable covered tobacco
smoking area at the front of our cafe.

Do
we have an age limit? />
The Cannabis
Café
is for discerning adults only. We therefore require that all patrons be

at least 18 years of age, or else be accompanied by a parent.

is located at 307 West Hastings, near Cambie. It’s right next door to the

world-famous Hemp BC store. We strongly recommend that you make a reservation
well in advance
of your expected visit, especially if you are coming from
out of town. Private bookings are
