Anyone see Baracelona v. Getafe a few days ago? And Messi's goal?
About a week ago I was watching Revisita De La Liga (highlights of the Spanish football league). There was an interview with Lionel Messi, a 19 year old Argentinian palying for Barca. In it, he was compared to Maradona - another Argentinian and one of the best (if not
the best) players in the world ever. Messi waves the comparison away, saying he's very honoured but that Maradona was a one-off, a special case, a unique talent. Durning all this time I'm thinking of
that goal by Maradona against England in the World Cup. One of the greatest (if not
the greatest) goal ever scored.
Skip forward a few days and Barca are playing Getafe. During the goal, Messi picks up the ball at about the half-way line. The same place Maradona picked up the ball for his goal. Then Messi goes on a run, beats about 10 people, takes the ball around the keeper and scores in what I can only describe as a step-for-step, carbon copy of Maradona's goal in the WC.
Youtube doesn't do it justice, but have a look. It shows both Messi's goal and Maradona's.
