Default Quotes

For any quotes you'd like to share. The rules are a bit loose, so post anything you deem intelligent or thought provoking. They're judged pretty subjectively though, if I think it's stupid, I'll delete it.

"To sense that behind anything that can be experienced there is a something that our mind cannot grasp and whose beauty and sublimity reaches us only indirectly and as a feeble reflection, this is religiousness. In this sense I am religious."
- Albert Einstein

"Insofar as the laws of mathematics are certain, they do not refer to reality; and insofar as they refer to reality, they are not certain."
- Albert Einstein

"I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones."
- Albert Einstein

"A man sits with a pretty girl for an hour and it seems shorter than a minute. But tell that same man to sit on a hot stove for a minute, it is longer than any hour. That's relativity."
- Albert Einstein

"If people are good only because they fear punishment, and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed."
- Albert Einstein (A sentiment echoed by pyromaniac here. Great minds think alike?)

"Whenever you find that you are on the side of the majority, it is time to reform."
- Mark Twain

"Go to Heaven for the climate, Hell for the company."
- Mark Twain

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."
- Winston Churchill

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.

And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.

How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."

- Julius Caesar
