People have been predicting the end of the world for centuries. So far it hasn't happened, and I don't see any reason why it should.
Besides, how do you define "end of the world"? Death of all humans? Total destruction of the planet? Or just a stock-market crash?
A giant meteorite strike would probably mean the end of the world "as we know it", but there would still be some life remaining, probably bacterial, and it would eventually start over.
