Fame - moneymaker was refering to Point of Sale (POS) data logging. For example, when you swipe your card on the point of sale system, the data is encrypted, then sent over the telephone line as audio similar to a fax machine.

But in answer to your question... you are correct. There is no difference between a skimmer and a card reader/logger. But don't bother wasting your time with moneymaker, he is a scammer. Check my thread titled "POS Data Logging" for details.
