The "Offical" sneaking thread Alot of things discussed here may require a ceartian amount of 'sneaking', ie going where you arent ment to go without being seen or herd, so it only seems right to have a sneaking thread to disscuss ways of moving in; rural, urban, indoor or outdoor, day or night settings etc. without being seen or herd. Maby we can all learn something.
I wasnt shure if this should go here or in the physical activities section, but I put it here because it has obvious combat rellavince. If it is in the wrong place then the mods can please move it.
So please discuss techniques/ideas for moving unseen or herd here.
Ill start out:
When moving on a solid surface ie carpet, concrete, wooden flooring etc. it is often quietest to move by placing your heal down first then 'rolling' the outside of your foot down onto the floor in one fluid (but not too fast) movment. If you are doing this on an noiseyer surface then place your foot down then gently transfer you weight to your front foot. If you are in a house/staircase that may have creaky floorboards then it is best to keep to the walls where there is often more support under the floor so it is less likley to creak.
The important thing if you are starting out to do this is to be patent, and to practice lots, if you have pets, friends or family members then practice sneaking right up behind them without being noticed.
In terms of clothing, you need to choose somthing comfotable and (obvously) as quiet as possible. Choose somthing to blend in with youe environment, navy at night (black leaves to much of a sillowet), cammo in bush, or appropiate civialian clothing if you wish to 'hide in plain sight'. If you must use a torch at night then it is best to have one with a red filter because it preserves nightvision and can be harder to see at night.
Another important thing is to strech and warm up before you try to do any serous sneaking this will stop any joints clicking (my bloody ankel clicks with every step I take unless I warm up and sergury to fix it is too dangerous) so warming up is very important.
This is all I have time for.. hope this thread catches on.
