| A SWAZI man was stoned to death by a mob of schoolchildren after he stabbed a 13-year-old girl to death with a spear and wounded 12 others at their school.
The 25-year-old man stormed into one of the classes on Thursday (local time) carrying a spear and ordered the pupils to leave their room at Ncabaneni high school, 60km south of the capital Mbabane, a police spokesman said.
After the children saw one of their classmates was dead, they stoned the man to death, he said.
"Our investigations have revealed that this man is a local resident and he was a dagga (marijuana) addict who was said to be a quiet person who was not violent. Residents of the area got the shock of their lives," the spokesman said.
School principal Roosevelt Nkonyane said teachers had tried unsuccessfully to stop the students from killing the man.
He urged the government to beef up security by installing a fence around the school.
Ten of the 12 injured were treated and discharged at a local hospital, he said.
Two were still undergoing treatment after suffering stab wounds. |
