I attempted a synth of HMTD and as the title suggest I failed.
I took some Esbit fuel tablets containing methamine (or something like that, which the internet told me is the same as Hexamine) I then powdered the stuff and boiled it over the stove so I could extract the wax binder. I finished that and got what I think was the right stuff, it burned like the fuel tablets did and I removed a lot of wax.
I then mixed it with 500 mL of 3% H2O2, equal to the 50 ml of 30% H2O2 that you used. I then mixed in the appropriate amount of citric acid that you suggested in your recipe.
The temperature never rose and it ended up freezing when it put it in the freezer, probably cuz this freezer is kept very cold and H2O2 freezes at -2 C* but with 97% water it probably froze at about 0.
