Rep Power: 0 | | Absinthe So I purchased a bottle of Collecters 70 Absinthe on my recent trip to the continent...
So far I;ve had about 3-5 generous shots - the first prepared with sugar and water, the second with lemonade and *sip* this one with lemonade and sugar.
So far, I feel drunk almost (70% vol) but it's more like I'm stoned.. Sort of happy and chilled, listening to Kean's album, Hopes & Fears.
Wow.
Although drinking on your own often connotates a sad old bastard, this is more a quiet meditative experince. It feels great.
How do any other drinkers out there prepare their absinthe? Any one got any recipes for their home grown wormwood?
I should perhaps buy a spoon of Ebay...
Discuss the green fairy here Let's all feel this warmth

Rep Power: 0 | | Well, I wouldn't try home growing wormwood and making your own, because a lot of people try that (due to it being illegal to sell) - and every acocunt I've heard fails miserably. You'd be much better off finding a nice cheap supplier, and then just working on ways to drink it.
The stuff I normally drink doesn't have much wormwood in it (about 2mg), but its 72% so its strong stuff. Whenever I buy it for an occasion, it usually has about 10mg of wormwood.
if you really feel like splashing out, I'd go for "Kings Of Absinthe Gold" which has no less than 100mg of wormwood goodness. but at £100 a bottle, its not exactly cheap.
hey, I'm having a party in October, you should head up and we'll have an absinthe sesh :P

Rep Power: 0 | | I had three shots of some probably very strong ansinthe on the weekend. It was at 85% alcohol and I have no idea how much wormwood... After three large shots I was wrecked and got lost at a train station about two hours away from where I live.

Rep Power: 0 | | Original absinthe contains wormwood. Wormwood contains a neurotoxin called thujone, which makes you trip. I know neurotoxin sounds scary, but you'd have to drink a lot to make any difference, and by then you'd die of alcohol poisoning anyway.
Wormwood infused absinthe is illegal in many countries, however it is only illegal to SELL. You can order it from czech-land or another country where it is legal and thats fine, because it is perfectly legal to possess.
You can get non-hallucinogenic absinthe perfectly legal, its just the stuff that contains wormwood that you can't buy here.
So, yeah it is hallucinogenic.

# mint
# melissa
# wormwood
# citron peel
# liquorice root
Those are the most popular.... notice how i put wormwood in there? because normal flavor is the best |

Rep Power: 0 | | There are a variety of herbs and such in absinthe, but saying 'it tastes like wormwood mixed with mint mixed with whatever' isnt going to tell him how it tastes, so put simply, when mixed it tastes like aniseed.

Rep Power: 0 | | Hey guys, i got 2 big bottles of absinthe now, on is 70%, the other is 85%
Had a load of glasses of it last night, and it is fantastic stuff. I felt drunk, and also something else, but i think that reports of full-on hallucinations are totally off the mark - it's more like a total feeling of clear-headedness, it's hard to describe
And the best bit - no hangover this morning!

Rep Power: 0 | | It isn't an aniseed liquor, I mean, it doesn't even taste like aniseed that much - its just thats the thing it tastes closest to.
I noticed that it smells more of aniseed rather than tastes like it. Next time you take a sip, hold your nose and see if it tastes different.

The "louche" is caused by the fact that the oils and shit from the herbs are only soulable in great concentrations of alcohol and so, when it's diluted with another liquid, the alcohol conc drops, and the oils go into suspension.
How about that, eh?

Rep Power: 0 | | Me and my friends tried it once a year ago. I think the general consensus was that it was a more relaxed, trippy drunk.
I was bored and wanted to see green fairies, so naturally I drank about 2-3x what I gave my friends (it was my bottle, I gave them each 2 shots). I blacked out something fierce and although I don't remember it, my friends said I was crawling up and down the floor for a good 30 minutes for no reason.
Good times. (Plus, it's 70%, so it does do a nice job of getting you drunk) |

Rep Power: 0 | | I want to try absinthe very badly. I know it has just become US legal again, but only one company in France is producing real absinthe for the US market. It is called Lucid, I don't know if it is anything like the more serious absinthe that is more common in Europe. |
