Heh. That's funny. And here i thought he was just calling him by his username.....

I often shorten people's usernames when writing them simply because it's a PITA to write some of them out completely. A quick perusal of some of the doozies floating around here should give some idea of what I mean.

But Headcase does have a valid point ya know... If everybody made a new thread every time they wanted to explore a different aspect of a single subject, the forums would be so cluttered with crap that it would be useless to attempt keeping track of things. It's almost at that point now.

And while I'm certainly not making accusations regarding any one particular person, it seems a lot of threads around here are of the "all about me" type. Rather than posting in existing threads on a subject matter, thus keeping information readily collated for those looking for information, it seems some users just have to make a separate thread. It's not really much different than typing "SOMEBODY HELP ME PLZ!!!" as the topic title.

The result is you're left with 20 pages of threads that actually only reference 8 or 9 actual, separate, topics. Now THAT'S annoying....

Of course, that's just my opinion.

A. Naming yourself "retard" is kinda ASKING to be called retard, retard.
B. Posting 2 more threads on a row about sodium chlorate when there are allready 2 active threads about "sodium chlorate" is incredibly stupid, dumb, annoying and should in fact get you virtually whipped.
C. Then whenever a moderator comes in responding to requests of other members being incredibly annoyed by the way you're poluting the forum, and not even gives you a warning but solely closes some threads that where just too much... you should absolutely not go into bitching mode, but instead be quiet, take the response, and go with the normal flow of the forum and stop doing the things that were not appreciated.

Sorry, but I do not feel empathy for people that are using this forum in the wrong way and proceed in doing so after several notifications for mal-behaving. He was asking for it, acted like a crying bitch, and continued bullshitting, leading to an incredibly mild punishement. As to the old site to which he himself was referring.. if PP would still be around you'd have a permanent IP ban on the first couple of mistakes you made. If everyone who would want to learn would hijack a university, things would not work out well would they??

Beyond that, shorthand of many forms is understood on a forum. When directly responding to the poster "Murder_Skillz", I only use the "Skillz" part.

Okay? It's annoying when people spell things "gr8" and "uno" (as "You know") and such. It makes their posts harder to read and more difficult to comprehend. On the other hand, if I call you 'john' or 'lee' instead of 'john lee', it's perfectly acceptable.

Is it not acceptable to call someone by a casually shortened version of their name during such a conversation?

If a fellow's name is Carl, is it acceptable to address him as "Dick"? Of course not, it's rude and insulting (low brow as it may be). However, if his name is Dick, then it's acceptable to address him as such.
