because it is standard. Grow guides usually say only the most known way. So, there is Nothing
wrong with using 24 or any other schedule that works.

true that HID bulbs have bigger watts and are generally more expensive to run as a single entity, but Also true that fluoros can add up; since so many must be used.
If u think about it, the watts needed per square foot does not really vary. so, even if we are using alternative lighting, we are probably still needing to aim for (and be paying for) 30-50W per square foot like usual.
