I don't grow my own often, but when I do it is because:

Its cost effective
I know what I'm growing
I control the outcome
it FEELS rewarding

The first main step in growing your own is finding a safe place to grow it.
If you live by yourself in a secluded area, then you're sorted, but if you live in a built up area - then it could be harder to stop the neighbours peering into your crop.

I don't personally live in the country, but my girlfriend does, so I grow my plants at her house. A: I can go over whenever I want to check, B: She looks after them when I can't. Result.

If you plan on growing your own, make sure you find your spot carefully.

youd kow if it had farsium sprayed on it and all sorts, (farsium is a fungicidal spray that the us spray over known drugs sites dotn think its used in britain yet) but its one of the safest things to do you dont run that many risks except getting caught

Anyway, I think before you start discovering what kind you want to grow, etc, you have to make sure you can. Like I said, you need somewhere to grow, and the equipment to do it.

mines growing nicely in the window it outside compost and a pot i have 2 in the same pot.

you dont need al this hydro and so forth unless you wann grow big.

natural light is the best you can get

Definately, and we've had a nice warm summer so far aswell. Thats good because normally the british climate ain't great for growing outside.

I have to my knowlage a sativa that has been growing for a little over two months in a 2L bottle. It is outside, about 3ft. tall and is being eaten by bugs! What would be a good pesticide to use on my plant. I live in the U.S.

im growing out some bag seed in asmall cabinet in my room. i got three of em all abaut 1 and a half feet. just started 12/12 so hoping for some nice buds soon. i was growing under 150 watts of flouro for veg and now im switchin to 2 70 watt hps lights for flower. growing them in what i think are 2 gallon pots in miracle grow soil. ill post some pics soon if i can. i dont know if you can on these threads or not.

i just brought some tommerite tomato food. 20ml for every 4.5 litres... hmmm ill have to do 10ml to a 2litre bottle. lol mines aroudn a foot n slowly dying i think, time to save it and start germ'n

Not strictly a pot growing question, but does anyone in Australia know how to get hold of some Sylvia? (pref a cutting). From the descriptions it sounds interesting, but is illegal over here so I can't just go to the nursery and buy a plant.

I had three seeds that sprouted and where starting out as nice little shrubs. I used a flourescent plus a crappy incandescant grow light.
But I was such a dumbass, I put some rose plant food and them and it seemed like a good idea but it totally killed them. I think it had weed repellant in it(damn it).
It was probably for the best, it was only a matter of time before my parents found it, I had no good places to hide it so I just left it out in the open. Now that I moved out I will try growing again. I know a guy who grows for fun and when the plants reach about 6in he gives them away, so I'll prolly use one of his to save time.peace.

lets just say 1/2 years ago i got a "warning" for dealing in college.. well i smoke pot more often than i did then now, i have 2 plants in my window. one 2 foot in hight the other half a foot behind .

my parents met the officers who gave me the warnign they came to my house and everything. well i have been busted yet by my folks althouhg my mom did ask me if my plant int he window had died yet, well it hasnt although i did burn it with too much nutes...


so you canget away witth it, its too obvious to sort of take a closer look

I found 2 seeds in amoung the last baggie I bought, so I may just pop them in a plant pot and see what happens. I'm thinking of putting some lights in my cupboard and grow a few plants in there, but I'm paranoid about setting my house on fire :P. Plus normal household bulbs wont work and I can't afford to go buying different kinds. doesn't realy matter though, all I have is two and its just an experiment.

one of me babies is a female. only problem shes the weakest one its damn annoying but still the females get a growth spurt soon enouhg so surely she'll get bigger and bud up nicely, they never went to the woods in the end, and they happily grow in my window! im so happy flowering should start end of next week i think, and be ready end of october hopefully unless they sucumb to the cold btu its fuckign boiling right now so hurray!

How are those plants getting along mate?

I was wondering if you could give me a bit of advice?
I found a couple of seeds in a baggy I bought a week or two ago, and I'm thinking about planting them, but I'm not sure how to go about it.
Its gotta be a stealth growth operation, and it can't be outside because its too cold.
What do you think of me growing them in a cupboard with a light? I could leave the light on through the day and then turn it off at night so that the plants respiration is tended for.
Also, I might have to put the cupboard beside a heater, or if worst comes to worst put hot water bottles in it, because fuck its cold here right now.
I'm not planning on growing them particularly big, so hopefully I should have enough room.
I jsut don't know what to do about the smell :P

ah the world of growing...

its good theyre BOTH females!!!! the smell is nothing, they only currently smell if you stick your nose right into it. i think mine are gonna be ready end of october.
also on too other news about my grow. have about 50 seeds 4 germed and planted going through the lot in 4s,to start growing through winter so theyre hardened off and strong. also have one cutting taking root,


now on to your questions

well a cupboard with a light should be fine enough, as long as the lights not too far away from them, if it is they stretch makign the plants go limp and risk killign them so keep the light away from them at about 10-20 cms that way there not stretching. cupboards will be fine. gonna need a few fans, to create a breeze so the stems grow strong and not weak and skinny,

The heater should be good, as long as its not too hot, because the light should also produce some heat, so have a heater but not too hot!


Smells they dont actually smell that bad unless there super big and super buddy, so if there like mine 2foot high they aint gonna smell much and they only smell good up close. so you shall be safe!

Just thought i'd add a few things as SWIM has grown in a cupboard H 105cm, B 70cm D 45cm. Fluorescent bulbs are your friend, sure there not as good as HPS but regardless of what some people say about them they are gold for stealth grows. Low power consumption with good light output and less hassle setting them up.Shop around for compact fluorescents, maplin had a pack of 4 18W for £10. Swim finds that the lights produce enough heat to keep the plants warm. 20C/25C with fan.
Also i suggest that you run the lights at night when in 12/12 ( cause swim hates leaving things on when they are not around, on another note swim has left a 36W 2ft strip light on for almost a month in same cupboard for growing shrooms with no fan giving a constant temp 30/35C. With no problems) Just make sure fuses are at the correct rating and smoke detectors are present and an optional fire extinguisher is handy.

Another need for ventilation is that heat + water = high humidity and moisture and electrics don't mix.
As for the smell swim finds that it is dependant on strain more so than size. Swims first few grows were with Kc Brains Leda Uno and there was very little smell. Swim then tried top 44 from Nirvana and Jesus Christ the smell took over the whole house it was shear luck that swim didn't get busted. The last strain swim had grown was Northen Lights from Nirvana. There was less smell but it was noticable and it required an air filter so swim got a Bionaire air purifier for the whole room, works very well and also removes all the dust and shit your breathing in. And filters last 6 months (or so it says)

Oh and with each grow you gain valuable experiance so even if your unsure do it anyway because seeds are cheap( unless you are unsure about something that could be dangerous) and check out Overgrow they have stealth grow sections and stuff.
Also theres nothing like opening your cupboard and seeing a mini tropical paradice in there especially with the shit UK weather.

I live in rural australia and have been growing my own for the last 5 years. The best thing to do when your plants are getting eaten is to Piss on them, sounds bad i know, but the people that actully smoke my stuff don't know that side of it

well so it snow november 24, i started in june cant remeber exact date, 2 weeks in i think.

so a total 6 months growing on a english window sill with sunlight only nt he od street light dfromt he opposite street and the spoty light fromt he enighbours garage down the end of the street. and my cannabis has mature 2 fucking lovely females abotu an ounce in weight. all nice n crystally, cut it of about an hour ago n packed the raw material in to some paper envelopes to dry out.

should be proper "bo" when its all dryed out. and prehaps it'll make me enough money for some new car parts (aiming for bucket seats. might put them in my 205, or if i sell it in the van i want to get..)

so yes 1 ounce of bud. ive ghot a few leaf cuttigns gonan try n get them to root so shoudl get more females on the go. for next season. might look at an out door plot.. next may get it in early. and let it run wild females n males for seads and bud.

from my lovely home grown which is still curing and some smoked during a nice smoke in a bmw(white box all the way) ive just sifted throguh it and foudn oh yes found 2 seeds the strain can carry on, so this is 2 seeds of bag seed x bird seed hemp. woo cross strain on second grow:P

basicaly before the females finished up i started 4 hemps seed sof to try n get ready for next season 3 died after the wind broke there stems. and opne survived and turned male inside 3 weeks n shot its pollen onto my weed. wooo. ive got plenty of hempo seeds from bird seed so next years (2006) grow will be mass out doors i think if i start these seeds of now under lgihts n shit i shoudl get em busy or i mgiht start em n keep em as seedlings. 12/12 style n then plant them out side come feb.. n then get a male on the go. Im gonan hope at least one of these turns female, so i atleast get bud, or if a few hempies turn female there shall hopefully be gentics in these seeds to bring back flavour.

I still want to start growing, but its finding a place to do it. I've been searching for months, and I may just have a nice place to grow. I might have some muchrooms growing there too, but my main aim is to get a couple of ounces every few months.

well the newer thread got deleted int he cock up a while ago, so ill just update here.

Tongiht as of 5 minsa ago ive just repotted my 2 babys for this year. theyve gone from a seedlign tray (one of thiose slpit into abotu 20 cubes) into a have litre pot(roughly). now in a week or two they should have grown some more in which case they will be heading for the woods and ill start my next two batches up. and hopefully we'll see more results. i would post pictures but its a tad risky.

so yeah, Woop./
