Default Why use sulfuric acid and salt?

Dry Hcl gas

How about calcium chloride and muratic acid (30%) to get Hcl.

Concept:

2 plastic bottles(quart gatorade)
2 holes drilled in each cap
fish tank tubing
fish tank air pump

1st bottle:
put tubing in a hole in the cap and extend it to the bottom making a 1/2 circle leaving extra tubing to hook up to pump.
Pour a couple inches of cacl in bottle.Put another piece of hose in the other hole and extend it a few inches into bottle
leaving enough hose to connect to the 2nd bottle, this hose goes all the way to the bottom like the first one. Take another
piece of hose and put it in the second hole extend it a couple of inches like the first one, leave enough hose because this
is where the gas will exit. Pour muratic acid in 1st bottle, don't cover the cacl completely. Turn on the pump and purge the
system untill you get a good steady stream of smoke. Now you have dry hcl. As always, make sure connections have no leaks.
Hcl is nasty if not handled properly. Use fume hood or out doors only.

Use baking soda to neutralize the acid in the first bottle when finished.

Optional:

put broken pieces of glass in bottles before adding cacl
dry the cacl for use in the second bottle only.

how does this supposed to work?

CaCL2 + 2HCl = 2HCL + CaCL2... huh?

its much easier just to heat muratic acid, as dissolved gasses escape solutions at higher temperatures much more than at cold temperatures.

or sodium hydrogen sulphate with sodium chloride, would give you sodium sulphate, and hydrogen chloride.

NaHSO4 + NaCl = HCl + Na2SO4

That's another decent route, but pumping acid through an otherwise good pump isn't so hot on my to do list. I'd just bubble it through sulfuric acid or more calcium carbonate/mol seives for dryness.

That Carbonate + acid combo might get kinda feisty but you could always add dropwise, H2SO4 instead, or salt, or any damn thing to soak up water. Epsom salt, A3 molecular seives.
