Request for Viruses

If anyone has any viruses (excluding Dumaru.Z, Funlove.int, HLLW.Mankx, Hybris.worm, Lovgate.R, Mota.B, Mydoom.L, Mytob.CY, Mytob.AH, Mytob.DB, Mytob.FA, Netsky.D, Netsky.O, Netsky.P, Nolor.B, Sobig.A, Sobig.E, Yaha.K) please email them to me and be sure to post the names of the viruses you send to help prevent duplicates.

(Posted in the Weaponry and Combat forum as this appears to be the most relevant area if one expands one's definition of 'weaponry and combat' to the digital realm...)

I'd be interested in collecting more virus/worm sources. (Honestly, for study of security rather than malicious applications.)
I'll go take a look in my sources directory and see if I have any that I could share.

Most of those sources I posted are written in ASM, because it's bad-ass for writing viruses. To "compile" assembly code into a working program requires an assembler.

And this really should have been moved to "Electronics, Spy Tech and Communication", as I really don't think it's considered weaponry (not the kind for this forum anyway.)

Enigma, looks like Google's servers block known virus code :? , got an error while sending: Remote host said: 552 5.7.0 Illegal Attachment

However, VX Heavens (thanks to jebuonag for the link), a very in-depth site, seems to have a very comprehensive database (including the aforementioned virus sources).

Anti-Social, if you're interested in learning Assembly, a nice book (though a tad on the expensive side) is Introduction to 80X86 Assembly Language and Computer Architecture by Richard C. Detmer. You may also find some brief tutorials at http://www.textfiles.com/virus/ & http://vx.netlux.org/lib/

As for why I started this thread in the Combat forum as opposed to the Electronics forum, this is due to the fact that the Electronics forum description makes it seem devoted to hardware ("High voltage electronics, bugs, circuitry and spy technologies") as opposed to software and the like, whereas viruses themselves as well as anti-virus protection can be interpreted as 'combat.' But this is basically hair splitting, so either forum can really work

And yes, the assembler makes the source into an executable file. I wouldn't recommend running the executable on your machine though.

I have a PC with Deep-Freeze installed, for such purposes.

Maybe a Digital Mediums subforum under the Electronics forum? That would cover a lot of things, but I guess in the long run the only things that will get posted there are requests for viruses, and cracking tutorials. I can see why that might convince X not to have such a forum...

Hrmm.. I can see your point Random, but honestly, there *are* a lot of computer forums out there which will provide much quicker responses and people with a much higher level of knowledge concerning computers... And if you try to see it from my point of view, Topics such as tried and true survival techniques/stories, explosives, weaponry and combat and "real life" subject which I would like to push these forums more towards do not have much in common with computer based topics. I don't want to end up with the bombshock forums being as broad as they were, and as you will find other forums are on the net. The problems with too broader forums are that you lose the concentration of skilled members in particular areas (in this case, the forementioned topics) and instead attract lesser skilled people interested in all areas.. while the latter person can still be a valuable addition to the community as a whole, I'd prefer for these forums to concentrate on the topics they are about at the moment. I'm happy to add "computers" to the description of this forums but i'm not prepared to designate an entire forum to computers at the moment..

I hope you can appreciate my position on this..

Absolutely. No problems there. I actually believe that such a forum should not be added until there is proven demand for it here (taking into account recent discussion about forum additions).
