Default how do I conceal computer serial number?

I used belarc advisor to give me info about my computer. I am concerned that websites can also see my info like "computer serial number". Can I conceal it or spoof it? I am using win xp.

Do you mean your computer's serial number (as in the ID it gets when it's produced) or do you mean your IP address?

As far as I know, the computer's serial number isn't part of it's internet identity. I can't think of a reason why it would be displayed.

None the less, if you don't register the product even serial numbers are useless.

For a while, Intel had a program where the processor/motherboard serial number was registered with something, but they scrapped that program a few years back. I don't think you need to worry about your serial number unless the computer is registered to you. Unless you sent in the warranty card, your serial number isn't even used for anything other than receiving factory tech support.

Some of the Intel motherboards have a setting in the BIOS where you can actually "turn off" the serial number...other than that, get a new PC or build one yourself and don't "register" any of the components

He may be thinking of the PC's MAC address. The OP may wish to spoof his MAC address if he's worried, or connect to the net via a Wi-Fi Dongle which has its own unique MAC address.

MAC addresses apply to local networks only, not the internet. Plus you can use Smac to change your MAC if your using windows instead of purchasing hardware. What exactly are you trying to do buggman? Do you want to stay anonymous when connecting to websites?
