I personally have not synthesized AP so don't take this as gospel.

Your crystals should not be undergoing sublimation while still in the acidic solution, at least not as quickly as it would in the atmosphere. Your crystals should be fine but AP is not the best thing in the world to be left sitting.

Hopefully the crystals are chilled, if they are, I still would recommend filtering them out and neutralizing them with baking soda and keeping them underwater in a neutral or slightly alkaline solution until you are ready to use it.

If an experienced member disagrees here, reply before MurderSkillz loses a finger, that would really suck.

Also, I have a question of my own for the aficionados here. If, hypothetically, someone wanted to make About 70-80 grams of APAN, fill a small container with it, take it to the shooting range, and shoot it with a .223 (an ordinary 52 grain boattail hollowpoint, not a tracer), what would be a suitable ratio of AP:AN to use for maximum effect, while still being sure it would go off on impact?

I have most of the ingredients for this, but i was wondering... at the store I saw a bottle of hydrogen peroxide, they had 20, 30, and 40 volume... does anybody know what the percentages are?

Do you mean the concentrations were 20%, 30%, and 40% by volume, and you want them in % by mass? I'm not sure I know what you want...

Also, I was talking about APAN, a binary HE which is simply a mixture of Acetone Peroxide and Ammonium Nitrate. It is more powerful and less sensitive than AP alone, and its power and sensitivity can be adjusted by using different ratios. Don't go thinking I'm talking about some flash comp wanna-be.

20vol. = 6%
30vol. = 9%
40vol. = 12%

So go for the 12%

Can anyone recommend a good composition for:

12% H2O2
90+% acetone
Sulfuric Acid

Ok, never mind that, I've just made my first batch. it's in the fridge.
when i mixed it, these little white particles started floating around in it. Is that normal?
Anyway, the first drop of sulfuric acid was from way too high, it made a little crack type of sound but after that was fine.

how long must i wait before it is ready?

2days later... The first lot(above mentioned) didn't come out so well, so i made another mixture.
this one, she looks good My entire mixture is almost all crystals. cant wait to try it, gonna leave it awhile though, till they laying on the bottom.

that was a fantastic synth. had about 30ml and nearly the whole mixture turned to AP

Here's my synth, the one I used when I was BANNED!!!!

- 100 ml's Acetone
- 225 ml's Hydrogen peroxide [12%]
- 25 ml's sulfuric acid(90%)

It made tons of the stuff... course I scaled it down a bit

It made a loud freaking bang I tell you that much!

It's not as easy as it sounds as the boiling points of H2O and H2O2 are very close. It can be done but I wouldn't get it hot enough to boil the solution, just hot enough for it to slowly evaporate. You will eventually get to a point where you're boiling alot of the H2O2.

Never ever, use "pans" for these kinds of purposes. Whenever you use metal or another substance that is not boro-sylicate glass, you're probably putting oxidizer and reductor next to eachother and even heating it. STOP USING METAL POTS AND PANS!! Same thing goes for cutting up big lumps of sodium or potassium chlorate with a knife.

Is AP more sensitive than NG?
Or is it the other way round?
And which is more powerful?

I'm currently making quite a bit of AP but am preparing for NG...

Acetone Peroxide is known as "The mother of Satan" because of it's sensitivity, it is far more sensitive to shock, heat, friction and EVEN LIGHT!

Nitroglycerine however has a much faster Det Velocity of 6600mps.....Scarily powerful.

For those who don't know, AP has a detonation velocity of 5300mps.
Oh and NG is actually 7700mps.....Even more Scary

It's not very sensitive when it's wet but I would still treat it very carefully.

Don't think that it will actually matter if you blow your hand off with AP or with NG.. However, blowing your hand off with AP is a chance of higher possibility..
