Default What mesh should i get?

Im buying aluminum powder off of ebay. There are many different Mesh's and i dont know which is best. Is higher numbers better? they have like 4000 mesh.

And which is better in thermite... Red or black iron oxide.

different mixes of thermite will give you different results. I made mine with 600 mesh and it didn't burn as well as it should have. 800 mesh and better is best for thermite. the higher the number, the finer the flakes, and the faster the thermite burn. So it depends on what you want to use the thermite for.

If you want to pour metal into something i would suggest something like 800.

800-1000 for cutting and anything more than that is only good for the heat and intensity.

but i shouldn't be quoted on this as i didn't use scientific method when testing. I just burnt shit.

[and i don't know anything about oxides. I just made my own out of a piece of plate stock scrap i had laying around.]

What mesh do you think you'd get from a coffee grinder?

hey there,
mesh is basicly how fine it is, and the higher the mesh the finer, HIGHER=BETTER,red iron oxide would be the best for thermite, and you get a very low mesh from a coffe grinder,
Best of luck,
MasterSmiffy
