how do you tell what soil is nitrate bering

as the name implys i would like to know what soils are nitrate bering so that i might extract potasium nitrate

Do you mean product soil, that you can buy. Or like dirt you find in the back yard????

IIRC old chicken coop pens are particularly rich in nitrates of that Im sure, Iwould also assume barnyards and the like are rich in nitrates as well.As far as natuarally occuring deposits you can simply scoop up I woud imagine the ones big enuogh are already owned such as the chile saltpeter deposits.I hope you dont mind my observation that you are really starting from scratch.Some sort of school /college or historcal project?

As far as the dirt in these pens containing nitrates I would assume the first 12 in or so nitrte bearing soil may also be where large amouns of vegetation rots?
if this isnt for your own edification you must live in truly draconian nation/state.As your labor to nitrate ratio may be few ozs per day if fortunate..50-$1 a days worth.If a historical
or prctcal exrcise im never the less fascinated.

Unless Im mistaken caves also have nitrates leached onto the walls fom water infiltration, possibly also old basements.Good luck and id be most interested in the results.

Your aware of the process of leaching the nitrates from the soil w/filtering?

Im sure I remember reading somewhere that it's easy to extract Potassium Nitrate from compost bins by running water through it... Im sure I read about it a few years ago when I first got into pyrotechnics.

i mean as in soil like in my back yard i heard you could make the soil nitate bering by puting like dead animals and fecal matter n stuuf in the soil lettign it set there for like a year can make it nitrate berring

Surely your aware you basically talking bout the above post of barnyard dirt being rich in pott nitrate .Japanese? Wy not aquire the pott nitrate from an OTC source?Even th4e japanese have need of chemicals

It's not as difficult as people make it out, contrary to what most people think it is legal to own "pure" chemicals such as KNO3. The hard part is finding suppliers, many Aussie pyros have reported ordering KNO3 from eBay in other countries and getting it through customs by labelling it something such as "Bath Salts" or "Plant Food". That and I'll talk to a few Australians I know to find out where they bought theirs.
