Default M-80s

Hi I had a ton of firecrackers and such on the forth and all I got left is some little tinny ones . By some I mean I have about 3000.

Anyway theyre about 1/4 of an inch wide and about an inch tall. If I cut a bunch up put them in some paper and ducttape the crap out of it could I get some M-80 type fireworks? Any precautions I should be aware of? OH and Ive got some Engine starting fluid avalible too if that helps.

Ive never done any thing like this before, I usually just buy the big ones

thanks

You can put it in cardboard tubes to make real m80's. Also a fun thing to do is getting little pieces of copper pipe and caps to make mini pipe bombs. They don't do any damage but they are cute little noise makers. One of the two caps is soldered on and the other is glued on. Really simple to make and make a hell of a lot of noise for their size.

[i meant putting the powder inside into larger tubes, sorry for having to edit]

*Sigh*

You're not going to even make near an M-80 if you stick together a few firecrackers. M-80s contain 3-5g of flash powder in them, each of your firecrackers contain 0.05g of flash powder in them. Do the maths.

Secondly, using lighter fluids or any other hydrocarbon based fuels with fireworks will never work, they often ruin the compositions. Also, do not use metals and pyrotechnics, so do not listen to the above advise and use copper pipes. M-80s use thick cardboard tubes, thick as in thick enough to stand on, you should not even attempt to make M-80s because they are incredibly powerful.

Result of an M-80:

Hopefully you would have seen it already anyway - this Explosives sticky, which is clearly marked "read this first", shows a number of examples (including the one posted above) of the consequences of this dangerous hobby.

In addition, there is a link to a news story that explains just what happened to one amateur pyrotechnician in Australia earlier this year.

If anyone who partakes in this hobby hasn't read through this thread, I suggest they do.

SO I would have to use about a hundred fire crackers not just 5 or 6.

I think Ill not do that and just play with all the little ones and just buy alot more m80s next year (pricey), Seeing as how tedius it would be to make just one. Their price suddenly makes alot more sense.

As for the pic already seen it since I read it first

thanks for sparing me some trouble I may look into making some flash powder in the near future.

Yah, plus you'd need to sort out the flash powder from the clay. It's more trouble than it's worth.

Bear in mind that M-80s are illegal, anything with more than 0.050g of flash powder is either:

A) Black market fireworks
B) Not actually made with FP
C) A mistake

So unless you're buying "M-80s" from back-alley vendors, you're not buying real ones.
