30-12-0 AN extraction then Binary Exploding Target Hi everybody
I am a noobie and I did utfse for about a two weeks to researched AN and this is how I found it and cooked it.
I went to the local agriculture fertilizer dealer here in my home city and told them I had 5 acres with a few cows on it that were eating them self's out of pasture and that I needed to get some fertilizer on the grass so the grass growth could keep up or stay ahead of there hunger. I asked for a high nitrate and low phosphate and 0 potash mix. (I did not want to ask for straight AN to give my self away). He mixed 300 lb. of 30-12-0 and dumped it in the back of my pick up for $72.00
Both the nitrate and phosphate is prilled but the phosphate prill is half the size of the nitrate, I made a easy classifier and ended up with about a pound of the prilled nitrate in about five minuets. I took and measured 250 grams of the nitrate and dissolved it in a small amount of hot water and filtered it 2 times with coffee filters and got about 3 cups, I poured that into a pyrex casserole dish and set it out into 95F sun for the day. By evening it was dry and I remeasured it and got 246 grams of Crystal nitrate. all I have to do is test it for purity which I think will pass.
The ? I have is.
Is the crystal nitrate now a low density ammonium nitrate to absorb AL powder like it should be to absorb FO? Or does the AN not need to be low density for AL mixing?
Also (one more ?) About Tannerite I read that the AN also has ammonium perchlorate(rumored) in it. And the research I did indicated that ammonium perchlorate will not bound to ammonium nitrate let alone the fact that no one makes it together in the prilled form. Can anybody help me out clarifying those 2 ?'s
