Rep Power: 0 | | KNO3 / NH4NO3 + Sulfuric acid.
Avoid Ammonium Nitrate for such a way tho, it's messy. YouTube - Synthesis Of Nitrocellulose |

Rep Power: 3 | | Its a shit nitration mix. Trust me, they get gooey and annoying. If you have any dedication you will find some nitric acid, and if you haven't found any, trust me, you're not looking hard enough.
I wouldn't be making anything like that at a friends place. 99% sulphuric takes a few seconds to burn into you skin. Luckily I had safety glasses on.

Rep Power: 0 | | mixing sulfuric and nitrate salts takes a lot of tries (depending on how pure your sources are). Sulfuric in good concentration being of highest priority in my experience..

Rep Power: 0 | | ive only messed up 1 out of three nitration mixtures with ammonium nitrate and sulfuric. i dont understand what you dont like about it, uahicon.
but no, id consider waiting untill your alone, with some time on your hands. being at a friends house could mean taking shortcuts. riskkyy.
especially, what if something goes wrong?

Rep Power: 0 | | from the way you talk, you probably dont know what a runaway reaction is. what if you leave it to nitrate, come back, find out its gotten so hot you have nitric acid vapours all over your room?
and i never said; what if something goes wrong when I do it. i said. what if something goes wrong when some kewl who wants to show his friends what a clever boy he is by blowin sh1t up does it.
honestly, im talking about the unexpected. what if the room does get filled with nitric acid vapours, ruins your friends walls? your not baking a cake here. every explosive is dangerous.

Rep Power: 0 | | yes yes.. stop toughtalking here about "I bet you don't know shit, blablablabla".. less judging, more thinking and contributing (to both o' you). Making NC is a fairly safe procedure. I've stuffed cotton in that nitrating mix countless times and it never goes wrong. Go by the manual for bigger quantities though.

Personally, I've had trouble making C/N. Need to try again with my new Nitric Acid. It never ran away, though, like N/G or A/P will. Still; sloppiness kills....
Always use "unsized" paper (not clay-covered magazine paper), like tissue or T/P or Paper towels. Cotton balls or cotton lint works if bleached and boiled in NaOh solution. |

Rep Power: 0 | | well i didnt bleach my cotton balls [: i actually used my girlfriends make up remover cotton pads. worked good enough for me.
ninefingers, we havent talked in a while! did you get my letter? i havent gotten anything back yet [:
tissue paper or kitchen rolls should be good for your purpose, as you can keep the paper intact.

Rep Power: 0 | | No, I didn't get any messages...maybe H/C cut off my Personal mail?
Flash paper: I almost bought some on eBay. I wonder how good it works. I Do know trying CHN with H2SO4 and NaNO3 doesn't seem to work. Maybe if you use half the cotton/paper they call for and leave it 24 hours; as suggested? I've also been told your H2SO4 is too strong if the paper seems to "dissolve".
I know fresh cotton should work. I just clean it to be sure since I've had such rotten luck on C/N. (That's when I burned myself in high school; trying to make it. )I had also tried N/G at room temperature; leaving the glycerin in overnight. For some reason; it didn't run away or even nitrate...thank the lord. Maybe I was using 98% RFNA? |

Rep Power: 0 | | hmm. i use ammonium nitrate, just measure by eye, works most of the time. i try to rip the cotton into really small parts, and keep em there. i take out a thread every once in a while, dry it and burn it, to test the amount of ash. when theres none, i take it all out, and dry it.
