Open uuuup, Here comes the airplane....lol Old book say: One part of glycerin is nitrated with about six parts of mixed acid, made up with oleum, containing about 40% nitric, 59.5% sulfuric (oleum, strong as fuck sulfuric acid containing free sulfur trioxide) and .5% water. I made a thread wondering about an oleum setup but the glitch ate it. Honestly, i don't really think precision matters too much in the mixture, as long as there is a small excess of acid and you watch your temps like a mutha..
Not enough acid and you will get some inferior glycerin DI-nitrate in the product, too much and you will waste good chems. You probably will not bother making oleum, so just use a bit more (idk, 8? 10%? ask X-ray.) concentrated sulfuric acid. Personally, i have a bit of a thing for nitroglycol, seems to be just better in most respects than nitroglycerin, except for two things: Its about 150 times more volatile, in the sense that it evaporates way easier, and is more soluble in water, meaning you wash away a tiny bit of product when you neutralize it, but not much, esp. if you use cold water. Other than that i would say its superior in every way to nitroglycerin. ...And its a bit stronger.
..and thats by weight, not volume i'm almost sure!!
