Advertisements? Advertise Bombshock

What are your thoughts on advertizing Bombshock? i read the spam thread and someone said how its like a few bunch of guy chatting in the evening.. and it seems that way unfortunatly. this is an AWSOME forum with great ideas and topics, and just loads of information. would it be a good idea to try and advertise? if so, how?

im thinking myspace is a good start. its free, and people who like this site can put us in there top, and if we have a flashy picture, then ppl would visit our page and check the forums out. and myspace is taking over the internet these days. so i think this would be an awsome start.

or we can pay for our advertisement on other sites. we'd pay for that by adding banners[NOT POPPUPS!!] to this site. or, we can always tell our friends! lol

and no offense, but i saw that link pic in the announcement forum and...well it sucked lol. needs to be more flashy, catch the corner of your eye.

bottom line is that this forum is a bit dead, and needs more life. more intellegent people to give ideas.

yeah...i just thought all of that up while i was sitting here, and decided to share it here.

I'm thinking we have enough angsty teenagers who don't have a clue. From what I understand of the ideal member, they don't spend their hours browsing Myspace.

I disagree. Flashy things tend to attract two types of people:

Angsty teenagers (as aforementioned), and
Simple, unintelligent people whose attention you can get with "Look! Shiny!" (this group alone encompasses those teenagers anyway).

Agreed. And we do get the occasional gem of a member, but unfortunately the kids we get tend to make everything look on the downside.

yeah...i agree with you with most of what you said. points well made. but with the paid advertise part, we'd get it from having other sites pay us for putting up there banners up on here. might not be a real good thing, but im just throwing thoughts out. sucks theres no other real way to help get other intelligent people to participate in this forum. i guess we can just really tell our friends, and itll go from there

Here's bombshock on Encyclopedia Dramatica, which leads me to suggest that maybe we should make a BS entry on Wikipedia?

I've actually been looking around a lot lately, and with the obvious exception of Totse (which has it's own issues), BS seems to be one of the more active site's of it's genre.

Nonetheless, I wouldn't mind a few more intelligent members. The only fun in P&M is me and Steve taking a long time to come to the same conclusion. But it seems to be the same people are the contributing members in all these site's.

If someome can think of a way to attract some members, please share. I'm not loving anything mentioned to far though, except inviting your friends.

I hang about on irc.hackthissite.org and post links a fair bit.

Most of those people are quite intelligent, and a lot of people on here now are from there. But that's targetted advertising.

As for getting high on google for relevant search terms, links need to be traded. But that's a hassle, and I bet no one would be willing to set it up and maintain it.

No. I don't think we should advertise bombshock for the reasons already stated. This site is good and if it is good enough it'll continue to grow.

Telling intelligent friends and associates is a good idea, but mainstream advertising for Bombshock is not the way - just my opinion of course.

i wish there was a way to set up like tests; simple fucking tests though they pick the catagory there most interested in when they register and they take a little test simple test to see there knowledge and say they get 10 out of 10 wrong there not allowed to register. I dunno sounds good coding would probebly be hard though

That really depends on the questions though. Even if they cheated, that would mean they can actully look stuff up on they're own too.

Hampster dood has a good idea too with the grammer test and everything, but that doesnt mean that once they get in here that they wont just go back to how they normally type.

Well I was wondering what the general consensus on me making a bomb video (pictures of bomb, pics of setup, explosion, aftermath) and at the end say "I didn't learn how to do this on bombshock.com"
