Default Airsoft

I was at my first real airsoft game on Sunday and have to say it was loads of fun. The day started off nice and sunny and the game was held in a pine forest. I rented an M4 with a hi-cap mag and used a face mask that used a metal mesh for the eye piece instead of clear plastic.

About half an hour before the game started the gods decided to have a pissing contest and see how many airsofters they could hit. Now this wasn't a little drizzle it was the kind of rain that cut through the trees and knocked the bb's from the air. Still the thunder and lightning gave a good atmosphere. Game scenarios were "defend a base", "Attack a base" and "retrieve ammo crates" which was basically a combo of the first 2 games where you would attack the enemy base and steal their ammo create.

We only got a few games before visibility was so low that you could hardly make anybody out. The very last game we tried was a prototype Zombie game. Only pistols, shotguns and guns with real caps were allowed to be used. There would be a group of survivors that had to hold a position and when it was over run they would have to get to an extraction point. Zombies would start off walking and required 3 shots to the chest to stop them in their tracks for a minute before resuming play. Later a "Dawn of the dead remake" (a runner) zombie would be introduced and could pass on the mutated virus to walkers. There's nothing quite like running out of ammo and having 10 guys running at you from different directions through the woods. When a zombie tags you you become a zombie. It looks to be a very promising game.

Anyone else play airsoft and does anyone have a recommedation on an AEG. I was thinking of getting a spring sniper rifle but have decided that an AEG would be a better option for my main gun.

I go Airsoft pretty regulary and it's a great hobby. As for the weapons it's more about what you like, sure there're alot of differences in quality, weight etc. I've personally used P90, AK47 and AUG and I'd recommend any of them. If you'd like to be a sniper then be ready to get a good sidearm as well since most games have limit on how short range you can use the Sniper (they're too powerful for shooting at short range).

Also if you want something in between then I liked my configuration of AUG with an silencer and PSG-1 accuracy barrel. Since AUG is a bullpup the PSG-1 barrel fits in with a silencer (it fills about half of the silencer but the silencing effect is still noticeable). With M120 mods (muzzle velocity 120m/s) it worked great as a sniper too. Modded M203 to it for additional close combat power, 165bbs on a short range is devastating :P Also I loved the AUGs triggering mechanims, pull the trigger halfway and it shoots one, pull it all the way and you have full auto, great for panic shooting

As for other equipment camosuit and tactical vest are pretty much mandatory. Without tactical vest you're fucked when you need to change a clip. Radio also makes it much more enjoyable since you can coordinate with your friends Of course if you're tight on budget you can start with just the weapon, glasses and camo suit (camo is really mandatory, otherwise you're pretty much saying SHOOT ME).

Currently my equipment set is:
Main weapon is P90, M120 mods, silencer, longer accuracy barrel, surefire tactical light, selfmade quick lock sling (move the weapon to my back and it sticks there).
Sidearm MK23, laser sight, tactical light, silencer.
Radio.
Tactical vest with leg holster for pistol and extra pouches on another leg.
Black, Snow & Camo suit.
Self made smoke grenades and "flashbangs" (just a small flash, rest if roleplaying).
The best (and most expensive) night vision goggles.
I've probably spent around 2000e for the equipment and probably 500e or so for bbs and gas. Airsofting isn't the cheapest hobby but it's so damn enjoyable that you'll be happy to spend loads of money for it.

If you have a weapon you'd like I can give comments on most of them Generally the only difference is weight, accuracy and sturdiness. Alot of weapons have plastic creak. Accuracy is directly related to the lenght of the barrel. Standard velocity on AEGs is around 90m/s (M90). And of course how it looks which is usually the deciding factor for a weapon :P

velocity is measured in fps. over here. the m90 spring is an upgrade same as the m100.

its cheaper than paint ball. ammo costs £10 for 3600 rounds paint balls are like 50 for £100

(im apologising here too, im so fed up with stuff atm )

Virus, The AUG is currently one of the guns i'm considering. I have a couple of questions on it.

1) Have you ever put a scope on it and how hard is it to view the scope with a face mask on.

2) The batteries are of the mini type, do these last well on a full days scirmishing. The battery i would get is a custom one for the AUG, 8.4V 2000mAh.

The site i'll be getting a gun from is http://www.zerooneairsoft.com/erol/erol.html

Is the AUG easy to customize for different roles, the 3 main role are assualt, support and sniper. I'm on a bit of a buget so what i was going for would be:
Styer AUG upgraded to 1J (328fps with a 0.2g bb)
Custom Battery
Charger
Hi-cap mag (330 bbs)

The site i play at has a limit of 328fps +/- 10% on all guns, so the upper limit is 360fps.
As for my backup i have GBB Mac11 and it saved my ass in the first game i played when the battery on the rental died. For camo i have GoreTex dpm camo trousers, a dpm smock for cold weather and a long sleeved real tree camo shirt for warm weather. I have an ammo pouch that can fit onto a belt or webbing and can hold 4 SA80 mags(2 in each pouch) with quick release.

1. Well yea I tested with a scope but the problem with scopes is that it takes longer to aim. With a small magnification like 1.5 you can train your eye to adjust to it almost instantly. Generally I don't suggest a scope unless it's for snipers, the distances aren't so long that you can't see it well without magnification. Other than that you'll have little to no trouble to fit any scopes on the civil AUGs scope rail. Military version has an scope built in and it sucks :P I'd suggest getting a good red dot sight.

2. Usually the battery lasts for the whole day but you might want to get an extra battery too. There're also battery holders that get attached to the side of the gun and hold a large type battery, I had one and imo it's great (Made my AUG look even more like a space gun ). And of course you can usually borrow a battery from somebody in the game if you run out of juice.

As I said earlier you can fit a PSG-1 accuracy barrel in the AUG if you get a silencer, so yea AUG makes for a great fullauto sniper, you'd probably want to get a bipod for support and sniper fire. AUG is pretty compact and even with the silencer it'll make a great assault gun, CQB is of course hindered but it's very rare to have a good CQB place and the same hinderance is pretty much for all assault rifles.

As for the equipment you better check the rules about hi-cap mags, alot of players don't like them and at least here most games have them banned. I personally don't like them since it kinda takes away part of the fun when you just spray 300 bbs down the line before reloading.

Thanks for the info.
The gun i'm looking at is the civilian version. It comes with fixed sites that can be attached to the scope rail. The scope i already have is a 3-12x40 on a single piece mount. I would also use the scope for scanning an area i was defending, there were a few times when i couldn't make out if i saw a mask or just a bit off a log.
Hi-caps are generally allowed unless a specific game calls for limitations (such as the zombie game). There was one guy with an AK Spetsnaz with a 3000rnd drum mag. I have a bipod as well that can fit the same type of rail as the scope. I've seen boxes of 10x real caps for sale but none for the Aug. Only for G36, G3, mp5, AK and M4/m16.

Edit: I'm also debating wether to get the standard Aug (280fps) or the upgraded vesion (m100 spring and piston). The difference in price is £35. My main concern is are the gears going to be able to hold under this power (gears are standard). I would hate to have the teeth stripped off.

Standard gears can do M100 fine, I've seen people run M120 on standard gears and they lasted pretty long time. If you're only going for M100 and you have multiple hi-caps you might want to consider high speed or super high speed gears. The normal firing rate is good but super high speed is like a constant stream of bbs Great for support firing.

Oh and AUG doesn't have underbarrel rail as standard so you'll probably have to mod that bipod to get it fit.

Well thats me put my order in, thanks for all the info.
The full kit will be:
Styer AUG Civ model with m100 upgrade.
Hi-cap mag
Custom Aug battery 8.4v 2000mAh
Charger
Sansei Sg5 Mesh mask

Edit: Also i'm not sure on the size but my bipod can be fitted to the scope rail and have the legs coming down. But i don't think it would work very well. Still only time will tell.

That's a good starting equipment and unless you get addicted is all you're going to need, well extra mags would never hurt. If you get addicted you'll find yourself buying more and more equipment just like me
