Default How would you fortify a building in event of a catastrphic event.

I was just wondering how everyone would Fortify a building without having to spend Thousands on specially made Buildings. I would like to know where you would want this building what you would store and how long would you expect to last in this shelter if you couldnt get it out.

Too vague. What do you consider to be a "catastrophic event"? Do you have specific event in mind?

More information is needed - if I wanted to fortify a building against forced entry, I would do it differently to how I would fortify it against a flood, for example.

Well, yeah, that too... if that's what we're fortifying against...

I was presuming he meant "fortify" in the conventional sense. But I could be mistaken, he might have meant against fire or flood. Hurricane possibly?

The Home Security thread didn't have enough "real" information.
It was also based in protecting a home from burglary rather than true "fortification".

Random asked a great question: "What do you consider to be a "catastrophic event"? Do you have specific event in mind?"

From the question, I don't think he's talking about a natural disaster, but I'll wait to hear an answer before dispensing any advice.

Zombies are a catastrophic event, but I think we might already have a thread on zombie plans.

In general I'd store a few rifles and shotguns with plenty of ammunition, and I already have nearly a year of stored food and water. A few barrels of gasoline might be helpful too. As far as building plans, I think a house that's halfway under ground would do well. Hopefully the earth would keep it relatively safe from most weather occurrences, short of a hurricane earthquake or major flood. I think being underground would help keep it warm in winter and cool in summer too. Beyond that I can't say too much with out more information.
