Default Laws regarding exlosives in the united states

I live in the united states, in a rural area. The land i live on (bout 6 acres)has no restrictions(no set of rules to follow as in a subdivision or a housing community). And as a good citizen i don't want to be breaking laws. Are there any particular laws prohibiting making, possessing, detonating etc of explosives? I know that you cant posses in public and stuff. Here is my state laws regarding explosives - S.C. Code of Laws Title 23 Chapter 35 Fireworks And Explosives - www.scstatehouse.gov-LPITS i am not fully aware if this is all my states laws on explosives, are there any federal laws or state laws that i should know about?

There are federal laws and guidelines regarding explosives/fireworks...but if you don't get caught (locally) how will the feds ever find out. To make or possess any explosive with a content greater than 50mg requires a state permit and a federal license. If you're interested in the requirements to get permits/licenses check the ATF website and the Western Pyrotechnics Association's website...

I think you covered it all spunone. It's the ATF you need to worry about.

I use tannerite. Tannerite™ Exploding Targets from Tannerite™ Explosives Corporation - Manufacturer of High Explosives, Low Explosives and Fireworks
It's legal and approved by the ATF. At Knob Creek guys load hundreds of pounds of tannerite in cars and semi trailers. All it takes is one shot from a rifle and and you have a huge explosion legally.

I used two cases in an old stove once. Then shot at the stove with an AK. Once a round hit the ice chest I loaded the tannrite in the stove, it blew the stove all over the place.

A sheriff stopped by to see what the loud explosion was. I showed him a small bottle of tannerite, and filled him in on what it was he left mumbling wow. To this day I think he thought that loud blast was from just one bottle.

I advise every one of you to never get an ATF license. A friend of mine got his and before and after you get you license they search your house or in nicer terms do an inspection. You also have to be so many yards away from streets and buildings. Not only that they will want to inspect the magazine that you will be storing anything in. They will ask why you are getting a license. What would you say then? Remember this is the ATF you are talking to. Also if anything happens in your area be sure to expect the ATF to pay you a visit.

You can get a license/permit for DISPLAY FIREWORKS only, then you are legal to store and manufacture shells, m-80's, rockets (small size) and fountains. There are limits as to how much "raw" materials you can keep in storage. And yes, the facility where you work/store your fireworks cannot be in a residential area (DUH!!) If you are really interested in making your own fireworks (legally) then you should check the western pyrotechnics association or fireworksland.com. The owner of fireworksland is a good friend of mine, his name is Bob and he is really knowledgeable about fireworks and laws surrounding them. Just don't ask him to "buy" any fireworks...he DOES NOT sell them...

The reason the ATF scrutinized your friend was because he probably applied for a Class 3 FFL which is a lot different than a Display Fireworks license. The Class 3 is to possess and sell explosives and guns (among other things) When you apply for a Display Fireworks license, all the ATF asks for are a set of fingerprints and a background check. They may ask for references from any legal fireworks display companies that have worked for (if any)...I know that to get a California Permit to Display Fireworks, they require written letters from at least five professional grade public fireworks displays that you have previously worked on...NO EXCEPTIONS!! So basically, if you have no "professional" experience with fireworks, you can't get a permit.
