V I N numbers

Hello everyone. Do the V I N numbers change according to type of chasi if the model and the manufacturer stay the same? And are there any other ways for police to determine that a car is stolen (other than serial \ V I N numbers, and documents)? Let's say we have a Mercedes C - class (2007) with a w202 chasi and we have a Mercedes C - class (1995) with a C-180 chasi... If somebody would want to inter change the V I N number (who could possibly do such a horrible thing? ) would the numbers have the same coding system? Or would they not match the model \ year etc... Also when changing V I N 's do you have to stay in the same year-of-make category, or not? thank youz

The year, make, and engine will give your clone away to anyone doing a Carfax report. Police can still trace the car, however, it is unlikely due to the cost of doing it.
