They sell a tool at Advaced auto parts just for taking the radio out of a car. And most of the time if its a stock radio it has a face plate you have to take off first.

You do realize there is no universal tool, right?

if your not good with cars i sugest that you bring your car to the shop and have them do it. becuase when done wrong both your new radio wont work right (because you didn't connect it right etc.) and your old radio will be broken from taking it out wrong. so you will have no radio to go with. its not that expensive and it is gaurrenteed to work for you. thats my advice to you as someone who know a shitload about cars and dismantling/fixing them. if you stil want to do this i would suggest that you do some research prior to doing so( so that your not standing with you screw driver 4 inches into your face plate wondering what you are supposed to do now. this site is waht you want to use its the first search on google under how to take a radio out of a car. i checked it out and most of it is right Car Stereo Removal and Installation For All Makes and Models, Car Audio Installation, BOSE Car Stereo, Bose Car Speakers, Bose Car Amplifier, Bose Repair

And can you tell me where I went wrong suggesting something that might help him? And I agree its not universal, but if I know about something that might help him out, why not tell him about it?

You said they sell a tool at the auto parts store, not tools. That implies that one tool can be used to remove any radio which is not true.

Fords, for example, require a pair of din tools for most models while some vehicles, like the Dodge Ram, require just the bezel to be popped off and 4 screws to be removed.

Each manufacturer houses their car stereo differently and no one tool operates them all.

You should have said, they sell tools at the auto parts store.

And they also sell something (crowbars) at home depot that may help you take your radio out of your car...

There are books that you can buy that show you how to completely rip apart your car. I suggest buying the one for your car you never know when you may need to replace something else.

To findout how to remove the radio look at the face and see if there are two hole each side.
If there's holes then find long metal rods that just fit in the holes, push then in and full out the radio NOTE- there may be an outer plastic cover/trim that needs to be removed before you see the holes.

Some radios need two metal strips to remove them, these are pushed in left to right,or top and bottom middle. You will see small slots where they need to be pushed in and there will be two of them, cut some long metal strips that just fit the slots, but will not bend, push them in and pull the radio out.NOTE- there may be an outer plastic/trim cover than needs to be removed first.

The other radios i've seen/removed have 4 screws or allen type screws that need to be removed/screwed in,these are always on the left and right side and there's two each side,unscrew/screw them in and pull the radio out. NOTE- these may also be covered by the outer plastic cover/trim.
Some older radios are also fixed at the rear,if you can't get your hand there.then it's not bolted at the rear.Hope this helps.John.

If the radio is not original to the car then it may be removed with two electrical screwdrivers.
The radio fits into a cage and these are made of thin metal with pre cutout flaps that are pushed in to hold the cage to the dash, these are not always fitted the way they should be.
Remove the outer plastic cover/trim from the radio.
push a small screwdriver in about 1/4" on the OUTSIDE of the cage, left and right.Do not push the screwdriver in more than 1/2" or you will damage the radio and dash.Gently push on the screw drivers and the radio should comeout with it's outer cage.
