Default frozen locks

on one episode of csi a guy broke in to a case that used a key. by using something like compressed air or something (please tell me if u know what it is) and sprayed it in the lock (some how freezing the lock) and jammed a key in to the lock and it busted the lock and letting him in the locked case. do you guys know if this is possible?

Default frozen lock

he most likely used an aerosol like "Dust off", the kind you use to remove dust from keyboards and computers. I know that when you hold the can upside-down, and spray it, it releases a freezing cold liquid that can be used to freeze off cheap locks. When used like this the thief generally uses a hammer to shatter the lock. I don't think that this would work for higher grade locks though.

Sounds awesome, can't wait to experiment. Think it might work on standard house locks? You could possibly chip away at it, as opposed to bashing it with a hammer.

This would not work on most conventional locks used to actually work well.

Liquid nitrogen in aerosol form should do the trick. Much colder. Better in liquid state.

There is no such thing as liquid nitrogen in an aerosol format. It's freon and it was made popular when thieves discovered a quick blast of it on "The Club" coupled with a nice smash from a fire extinguisher, or something equally heavy/dense, would defeat the locking mechanism.

Hawkeye, if you or anyone else wants the right answer to your questions regarding locks, security, etc. then post it at Revelation 29. I'm there all the time and I'll answer any and every question you guys may have.

Beyond was right. It called freon and used in airconditioners. It is also use in the stuff you blow out you keyboard with. But for the lock thing to work, you have to hold the can upside down to get "Liquid Freon". It dosent work on combination locks but things like master locks it works well on. just spray it till it freezes over then a quick hit with a hammer will shatter it. DO NOT touch the lock when its frozen, you will get painfull ass burns. Trust me, I know.

It was shown on "Burn Notice" too. But remember, not every thing on tv is real.
