Im having a couple issues with the lye method and hopefully someone would be able to help.

First off is shrinking of the paper. I searched the thread and found out that if it shrinks you are either putting too much in or not letting it fully dissolve. I feel that no matter how little i put it it will still shrink. Is there anythin i can do to prevent this?

Also, the bigger issue, is that after removing it from the lye and starting to scrub the ink off, the bill becomes extremely pink and is not the beige/white color it once was. I am clueless on how to fix this and could not find anything using the search feature. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks.

I don't use the downy method seeing my printer jams every time. I print them on paper out of the box. cut them out and then crinkle them in my hands. Then flatten it back out by holding the 2 ends and going back and forth over the corner of the desk. I do this a few times and it breaks it in nicely. I then iron it real quick on low heat. Come out perfect.

@Mvpsoriano I haven't had a problem with shrinkage or weird pink colors. Are you using the exact lye mentioned? They look like tiny little pellets.

Take a pic so we may see exactly what you mean.

You might have 5 bucks to waste if you mess up. I don't.

If you read I clearly state what I use. It's a matter of preference. Read posts #273 & #297

Skillz, if they keep asking questions like that, just stop responding - they'll look them up themselves if they really want to know.

That^ incomprehensible blob aside, first you don't have the sense to figure out why printing from blank paper is preferrable, then you can't figure out that you should read the thread to find solutions others have already offered.

If you're asking to see if anything was updated - maybe you should have read the thread to SEE if anything was updated.

This level of incompetance registers you as an 8.5 on the lost cause scale.

The only time I say i'd print on a blank bill is if I got an scan of a 50 or 100 Pre '96 with no security features. Then i'd maybe say it's worth it. Other than that it's a waste of time and money. Just pass the feel and look test and that's all you need.

Laid paper has a visual flaw of watermark-like lines appearing on the paper when viewed many angles, making it unacceptable for counterfeiting.

On a secondary note, you expect us to believe that you went from not being able to figure out lye vs blanks to passing your own bills in less than twenty-four hours? BS kid.

Kid, if you're going to keep writing in that unreadable gibberish, just stop posting. Oh wait, you're banned - nevermind.

The watermark-like lines that appear on laid paper is a side effect of the production process, all laid paper has them. This being the case, you're either too stupid to see it or simply lying - you're welcome to choose which.

I use an HP and everytime I try to print bills it prints "rulesforuse.org" and doesn't print the bill. After doing some research I found out that HP volunteers to have that put on its driver to prevent counterfeiting.

After reading this thread I noticed posters recommending Canon printers. So can anyone using a canon confirm that their printers don't have the "rulesforuse.org" problem?

All printers do it. Mine does too. But for the newer bills only Try printing an older bill or scanning an older one and you will see what I mean.

Hahaha. This just happened:

I was going to mcdonalds with a washed $5 as a $20. I get to the window and give her the $20 bill. I thought she put it in the dror and went to get my food, but she goes and gets the manager!

The manager says "Sir, this bill is fake."

I'm thinking oh fuck, so being smart I go "What? How? Let me see."

Then I take it from him.

He says "Well it feels like paper" (and it did, I scrub my bills too hard and they get very thin)

Well being the smart guy I am, I go "Yea but it has the line" (Covering up the watermark because it was Lincoln and not Andrew Jackson, hoping he wouldn't look at it)

Well he takes it from me and looks at the line, then he starts looking at the watermark. I'm thinking "Great, no food". But now most people know that the watermark face is the same face as on the bill, not this guy though. He looked right at the watermark of Lincoln, not seeing Andrew Jackson smack dab in the middle of the bill I guess.

He simply says "Oh sorry sir." And puts it in the register. Owned... Yay I got paid to eat

You are doing it way too hard. Do small circular motions. I found a tooth brush with a tongue cleaner (little silicone thing on the back of the brush) works quite well. Get soft bristle by the way. Just take your time and you will be fine.

Seriously though, just scan your own, it takes 5 minutes and you can guarantee a good scan and print.

For 1 it's not fucking bleaching. 2 It's already been discussed. 3 Read the whole fucking thread before you ask anymore dumb ass questions. That goes for everyone else that might want to ask another dumb question without even reading the thread, especially if you are new. 1 more dumb question I swear my brain is going to overload and malfunction.

Zero and Skillz are right kid, you need to read the thread before you start asking the same questions everyone else has already asked a dozen times before.

If you actually had any interest in the subject, you would have read the thread before you asked. The fact that you didn't put forth the effort to read the thread tells everyone else that it's not worth their time to help you.

Dude i read the whole thread and it doesn't go into what I'm asking.. it says how you remove ink from the new 5 how its even easier but what I'm asking is if that's a waste of time with the new 5 bills since they have different security features than the old 5. The new 5's have it written all over it versus the old 5 it just had Lincolns face on it. Just wanted to know what people experienced with that. You guys get all offensive like I'm talking about your mother or something.

No, we get angry that we've put time, effort, and often money into researching these things; then put additional time and effort into writing them out in a way that any idiot could understand - only for them to be skipped by some kid who doesn't want to take the time to read them.
