Neither of those questions can be answered.

How loud something needs to be to wake a person up isn't standardized. Some people are light sleepers some people are heavy sleepers, some heavy sleepers can sleep next to an airport but will wake at the sound of a hat hitting their floor.

Measuring the sound level of walking can't be ansered here either. Are you on carpet? Tile? Dirt? Sand? Hardwood? Laminate? What kind of shoes are you wearing? What's th etemperature in the house in question? What's the outside temperature?

There's just too many variables to give you a straight anwser.

Also how heavy you are, how old the house is, are there stairs....I'm sure you could make a rough estimate, but as shetlan said it won't be accurate.

A smart person wouldn't break in while someone was home. A really smart person wouldn't break in at all.

If you're asking this question from a home security point of view, just get a really loud alarm.

Or a dog.

Oop, I forgot weight, house age, and stairs.

Let's also add, your height (as it relates to your weight), stair material (wood louder than concrete - metal louder than wood), heck even the padding under the carpet makes a difference.
