Cross Country Road Trip Without Spending A Penny The following is completely hypothetical.
A couple friends and I will be going on a cross country road trip. The purpose for the road trip is irrelevant, but the goal is to avoid spending any of my own money. I intend to do several cons on the way to pay for gas, food, and lodging. Rocks-in-box scam, whitehouse, flop, etc.
For food I have an interesting idea. Several fast food restaurants have coupons that can be found online for free fries, drinks, burgers, etc. These coupons rarely have bar codes and such, with basic photoshop skills one could edit the expiration date as well as even the type of food and deal received. A coupon that expires in 2006 for a free medium fry could easily be changed to a coupon for a free combo meal, free large drink, free whopper, etc. If anyone has any coupons they could upload that would be a huge help.
There's also a common Mcdonalds scam which involves going through the drive-through, start to order but then change your mind. When you get to the first window where you pay, tell them you're just getting a cup of water. Then when you reach the second window, you will receive the food ordered by the person behind you. This only works if it's fairly busy, so it's important to wait until someone pulls up behind you before ordering. Also, this only works at places like McDonalds which have two windows.
Besides fast food, I will be bringing a cooler with food. At grocery stores it's easy to get free sandwich meats. Barcode switching or simply walking out with the food works perfectly. A simple variation is to buy a couple items, walk around the store with a bag, then order some cold cuts at the deli and stick it in the bag on your way out. Simple but never fails. Grocery stores have little to no security.
Gas will be a little trickier. Siphoning is a possibility if I'm strappped for cash but I'd like to avoid that if possible. Doing a return scam at Walmart could work and using the store credit at the certain walmarts that sell gas. Selling store credit at the store is easy, as finding someone in line to buy a gift card for cash is pretty easy.
Lodging will likely be the hardest. I'm currently trying to find coupons and vouchers for motel 6, econolodge, etc. With some photoshop skills it shouldn't be hard to edit the vouchers into something that will get me a free night. Again, any ideas would be appreciated.
I'm experienced in a variety of cons, and have no problem raising cash when I need it. Change rasing will likely pay for the majority of my gas and lodging costs, but I'm always looking for more ways to raise cash/reduce costs.
I'd appreciate any feedback or creative ideas. I expect most of the answers to be "Break sum dudes window and jack his shit." But I also know some of you know your shit, so let's see what we come up with.
