Prepaid Credit Cards,, help

A friend gave me this prepaid credit card from walmart, but it isnt activated and the only way to activate it is with a receipt that has the activation code on it, but he threw it away.I called walmart and they told me that the only way they could give me the code without the receipt is if I tell them what credit card I bought it with and the exact time that this card was bought, what bullshit.Any way I can get the activation code?Walmarty has been no help at all to me.

A couple weeks ago my friend and I were using another prepaid card, this one from riteaid and we called several hotels and reserved a bunch of rooms.There wasnt much on the card, but someone told me that the hotels will try to charge the card and if there is no money they will do a charge back thing, is this true?The name on the card was "gift Recipient" so I dont think that they can find me and charge me money.

Its called a pre-authorization charge. Any place that accepts credit cards will do this now. Some places will charge the card 15-20% over the actual amount until it clears then the rest is refunded. Basically they do this to prevent people from doing exactly what you described....Kinda one of the shitty things about credit/prepaid cards.


So if your friend gave you the gift card find out what time it was bought....

If it's a prepaid V/MC/A gift card, it's activated upon checkout/payment, and there's a # and/or website on card that you can access to check balance.
