Default Mag scanning issues in other states?

Ok im having a few problems with magstripes scanning in other states. I use the jerm to encode my mad for california but when all my friends use them in new york, they dont seen to work/read. I was wondering is anyone was experiencing these kind of problems.

Any suggestions at what it can be? should i start encoding in NY format if they will be uses strictly in new york?

It is just a fact of life that not all out-of-state ID cards can be scanned in different states. I've had clients tell me that their VA won't scan 2 states away from it. So it is not a fault on your part, it's just the establishment does not have the software to read it.

But what if you walk to the store with a genuine ID and it doesnt scan? Does that mean they take you real ID? That would be stupid because every out of state customer that goes to the liquor store with their real ID would have to have the cops involved and that just doesnt make sense. Their just has to be a missing piece to the puzzle

Most of the time people don't know what they're doing and will submit. They'll probably say something along the lines of "Oh, it's probably out-of-state that's why it doesn't scan/swipe correctly". The only time this would be a problem would be if you were trying to gain access into a bar or club and the ID doesn't swipe. Bouncers may throw you out and/or take your ID. I just had my CA id swiped today by a girl I know working at a convenience store. It didn't read, which is unusual, because it's supposed to read. I'm also on the East coast.
