Default Read Nietzsche

For all my brothers (and sisters) in this group I would direct you to read the works of the philosopher Nietzsche. Why? Because he was one of us, Nietzsche was an anarchist and professional asshole and shit-disturber. He was an athiest and professed "God is dead". Don't worry, you don't have to be an athiest to enjoy his works.

Of special interest was Neitasche's philsophy of the Overman (Superman). Not the comic book character, nor the Christopher Reeve version (Neitzsche wrote all of his works in late 1800s). I'm talking about a REAL superman, a man who is above everyone else...beyond good and evil. Laws, ethics, morals and rules do not apply to this man. Nietzsche said "Man is something to be surpassed". Once you read and accept this new philosophy your life will change forever.

I the movies this Neitzsche superman was played to perfection by Robert DeNiro in the 1991 movie Cape Fear. At the beginnng of the movie we see DeNiro in his prison cell getting ready to be released. On his bookshelf are many of Neitzsche's greatest works. "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" is Neitzsche's masterpiece and the bible of his thought. On the wall of his cell we see a man in a uniform with a sword...that is a picture of Neitzsche (he was never in the miitary, he just dressed up for that cool picture).

DeNiro wrecks havoc in Cape Fear that makes Hannible Lector look like tame by comparison. While in prison he turned is body into a killing machine, and promptly pounds the hell out of three guys who jump him in an alley.

But I'm getting sidetracked. While you don't need to be a psychoath to practice Neitzsche's philosophy, it sure can't hurt. Many people consider Neitzsche completely insane. During the last 10 years of his life he contracted syphilis, and this is when is writing really became interesting. Oh, this is good stuff!

I try to avoid what Hitler and the nazis did with Neitzsche's ideas. Neitzsche was too much of an individualist to ever have participated in anything like that. And that's what appeals to me, the fact that he was a loner and didn't need the approval of society.

If you can't afford the books most of Neitzsche's works are available right here on the internet. Although nothing beats real books. Enjoy!

I love Nietzsche, but allot of his works are fucked in translation from German to English, my mom's b/f lived in Germany for 17 years and said most translations from German didn't transition well because German doesn't have the same structure as English.

But for the point this on Nietzche; Nietzche has some interesting concepts such as progress through competition, eugenics, and self-mastery. Nietzsche's overman is more then brutal, smart and driven by power. He is free from assumptions (often assciadted with morality) and as an English king once said "All athority is by assumption." Nietzche "Overman" (AKA "Superman") was free of moral assumptions; which meant he used people based on their skills and was utterly disgusted with those weaker then him, which was everyone.

Also on an important note; though Hitler did study Nietzche. Nietzche himself both respected the Jews and Polish but hated the Russians. However he saw value in the Russian culture, because emotions are just one more weakness to be overcame.

Friedrich Nietzsche,

We are always in our own company.

In all respect for Friedrich Nietzsche, I'll have to admit, I admire Søren Kierkegaard the most in the world of philosophy. Having said that I don't (completely) oppose to Nietzsche's ideas.
I wouldn't say I agree with Kierkegaard without question, but this part of his works is worth looking into: Absurdism

The only reason I don't like him is his view on nihilism, as I happen to be a nihilist.

Kierkegaard or Nietzsche?

EDIT: It wasn't meant to pose the question of universal truth. I was just asking which he meant by "him"...
