A thread for all those random, sport related comments you might have.

Chelsea drew today! And a fantastic own goal by that prick Ashley Cole. I was so happy. It might not go down under his name but none the less, it was his fault.

United for the league.

I'm thinking about playing baseball. I'm not really very fit, but I'm pretty good.

John O'Shea with a last minute winner at the Kop end after being run ragged all match. Unlucky Liverpool. Unluckier Chelsea. United for the league.

Anyone see the Ireland v. England match in Croke Park? And by the way, for all you commentators our there, it's promounced "Crow Park". The K is silent.

This past season, my high school's football team went undefeated.

Alright, you all know how I feel about cricket (playing sports wearing sweater-vests?! Wearing sweater-vests at all?!), but Ireland just knocked Pakistan out of the World Cup. What? Thats like...... Cork Con knocking the All Blacks out the the rugby World Cup, or Plymouth Argyle knocking the Italians out the the football World Cup, or...... the Raiders winning the Super Bowl (raiders are shit, right?).

Anyone see the end of the Six Nations? Thieving French bastards.

Well, there are accusations that the game between Pakistan and Ireland was fixed. There's also that little thing about Pakistan's coach being murdered by strangulation, allegedly because of a "tell-all" book he was writing about match fixing in international cricket.

Yeah I heard about the match-fixing, but against Ireland? There'd be more money in it, but like I said, Pakistan beating Ireland? People are going to be very suspecious of that result no matter what.

Cricket suddenly seems so much more interesting. I wonder what the seedy underworld of table-tennis is like....

I just saw an old team-mate (from the beginning of last year) playing with the Irish U-19 rugby team. Damn did that stroke my ego. People I tackled, people I left in a cloud of dust at training! (I was a winger-cum-centre, pace was my thing).

Better then that, one of the other players played for the big local rivals. A few years back, I was penalised for a high-tackle on him. And now he's playing for Ireland! Voila, headcase leaves his mark on international rugby, just like he said he would.

I've sent two players to hospital in the course of my rugby career, and only been sent to hospital once (and that was precautionary). That's a winning ratio.

Anyone see Baracelona v. Getafe a few days ago? And Messi's goal?

About a week ago I was watching Revisita De La Liga (highlights of the Spanish football league). There was an interview with Lionel Messi, a 19 year old Argentinian palying for Barca. In it, he was compared to Maradona - another Argentinian and one of the best (if not the best) players in the world ever. Messi waves the comparison away, saying he's very honoured but that Maradona was a one-off, a special case, a unique talent. Durning all this time I'm thinking of that goal by Maradona against England in the World Cup. One of the greatest (if not the greatest) goal ever scored.

Skip forward a few days and Barca are playing Getafe. During the goal, Messi picks up the ball at about the half-way line. The same place Maradona picked up the ball for his goal. Then Messi goes on a run, beats about 10 people, takes the ball around the keeper and scores in what I can only describe as a step-for-step, carbon copy of Maradona's goal in the WC. Youtube doesn't do it justice, but have a look. It shows both Messi's goal and Maradona's.

I'm pretty sure that was the result, coming back from being 12 points behind at half-time. They have always played better from an underdog position than from a winning position, though.
