Yes, it'll make you stronger and faster but so do a lot of sports.
And now I'll post three good websites on parkour tutorials *sigh*. http://parkour.net/ http://www.urbanfreeflow.com/ http://www.zanshinstudios.com/

You shouldn't be doing "all the vaults" because then you're following a formula, a pattern. Parkour is about removing the limitation society puts on you "Walk, don't Run" and all that. Parkour is using the flow of the environment. So although there are some ways of jumping and landing and stuff that many people use, don't be limited by them; if one 'move' doesnt suit your environment, ditch it. if you can do a jump that noone else does, but it works for your environment, run with it.
Good work.
YoungHypnotiq,
You should read up about David Belle (the 'creator' of Parkour) and his views. its great that you are getting involved in Parkour, but Parkour was not designed to help you commit crimes. Belle, when perfecting his style would complete a run and think 'If I was going into a burning building to help someone, would that have saved their life?'
note the difference between that and this 'if I was escaping cops would I be able to commit another crime because that run helped me escape?'
Basically, its great that your freeing your mind with Parkour, but your not using it how it was meant to be used. Don't be so selfish- you aren't fighting a great ethical battle; you're smallfry. You're giving Parkour a bad name, and people like you may lead to it becoming illegal. And then you'd have a whole heap of angry uber-traceurs each wanting their pound of flesh. Please be considerate.

Rep Power: 0 | | Yeah, I started doing this shit about a year ago when I was seeing videos of people like David Belle and Dominic LaCasse. I was like  ...I WANNA DO THAT! American Parkour is a good informational source.
The workouts are intense. When I started I couldn't do one handstand push-up, so i built up to it with steeper and steeper inclined push ups.

Rep Power: 0 | | When You Are Starting To Learn Parkour Or Free Running, Try And Talk About It With Other People And Ask If They've Heard Of It Or If They'd Be Interested. It's Easier To Learn If You Have Someone To Swap Ideas And Copy Techniques From Then Trying It On Your Own.

Rep Power: 0 | | I learned similar rolls and jumps in tae kwon do. Its very useful when you live in a place where walls and buildings have unprotected treasure spots where you can chill for a while. Theres a place on top/beside of a store between mine and my girlfriend's houses. If you kickoff from a wall and grab a hanging walkway(never used) you can swing yourself up and onto a brick wall. On one side of the wall is a back alley that no-one ever uses seeing as it leads to a loading area. On the other side is this enclosed area. I don't know how it came to be but it is quite sweet. Its in the shape of a boot surrounded with 9ft tall brick walls on three sides and a two story windowless store wall on the last side. the only way to get out is to step on a 'ladder' made out of two pallets and jump back into the alley. Its an awesome place to sleep if you ever find yourself homeless.
with free running you can find many places as awesome as the one i described.

why does all the available info conflict with that sentence?
do you have supporting evidence to back up your claims?
when will you stop with this acting all hard to impress people you don't even know who see enough of this type of thing to see right through it?

Rep Power: 3 | | Haha the "Idea" was developed hundreds of years ago David Bell just gave it a name.
And to a lot of people asking about it if anyone ever tells you one way to do it is correct their fucking stupid. Parkour is pretty much breaking the bonds of limitation that society puts in front of you. But you really doo need to be fit to do the extremem parkour. Or at least practice a LOT or else you wont come near anything good in it. I suggest you start by climbing becasue there is a lot of climbing in facy but free running i say just get out there and run and do what you want to jump stuff and really work hard at it if you believe you can do it you can do it that is what parkour is all about now a days!

Rep Power: 0 | | I have been doing Parkour (a form of) for a while now. I dropped all the vaults and other fancy stuff, I kept, wallruns, precision jumps, climbing and other wall based "moves".
By doing this I am now able to get anywhere in my town. Its is VERY useful for getaways or just getting to any place you wanna go. |

Rep Power: 4 | | Absolutley love the concept of free runnng/parkour, for the simple reason, even if you never NEEDED to use it, you have the knowleddge that you can go almost anywhere in a straight line.......its freedom from the sprawl of the Concrete jungle urban cityscapes of this world.
I would like to attempt to condition myself and learn the skills neccesary to cope with physically challenging myself to defeat the boundaries around me........maybe i will!
Also, my stamina is a bit pants at the moment (40 Fags a day) and my body could do with the "maintainance".

Rep Power: 0 | | Free running is for physically fit people. For all those wanting to learn how to flip (front and back and side), Start on a trampoline. Me and my friend have been climbing and flipping for 2 years now and because we have the muscle everything is easy. Personally i never had to learn to roll out it's just instinct. But the steps to roll out are:
1.land on your feat with your hands in front of you bent at elbows.
2.Don't fight the pressure, let it bring you down.
3.Lean to the side you are most comfortable on.
4.Roll on your side, Never pass your spine on the roll
5.Unfold the leg of which your side you rolled on and the power pushing you down will push you back onto your feet.
Good Luck to everyone learning

Rep Power: 0 | | I've been doing parkour for about a year and a half now, but its been realy wet and slippery latley so I havent been out for a while. Last time I went snowboarding I managed to do some sick parkour on/between the volcanic rocks. In the summer me and my mate made a vidio of us doing parkour at the local highschool and university, which was awesome, until his fucking computer crashed and we lost the vid
In many ways doing parkour in a natural environment is so much better than an urban environment and gives you such a great feeling of freeness and there is much more varitey in the boulders/rocks
