Default Ok, so this might sound like an extremely stupid question

Ok, so this might sound like an extremely stupid question, but when people say they have a 9mm gun, do they mean that the barrel's width is 9mm or the bullet's width is 9mm? Ive made some homemade guns before, but I have never held a store bought proffesional gun. You know those fishing weight bullets? I have some that have a 9mm diameter, do you think they could be used in 9mm store bought guns? What are the length of bullets used in 9mm?

Bullet's diameter is 9mm. I think the length is 19mm but not sure on that.

Yeap 19mm. If the fishing weight is soft metal then i think that it would work down a rifled barrel.

A 9mm cartridge is 9x19 milimeters for the casing only. The bullet protrudes further.
If you wish to load your own ammo then use the original brass casings from manufactured ammo. If you are determined to make your own bullets then make a mould, don't use sinkers. Melting lead is easy enough.
While I have never made a firearm myself, I would venture to suggest that great care should be taken when making and firing.

The bullet is 9mm diameter, length depends on manufacturer.

I believe you can use standard .22 ammo in a 9mm gun, So is that an option?

Since when? A .22 bullet is 5.6mm dia. The entire cartridge would fall out of the barrel. In any case, standard .22 ammo is a rimfire cartridge, 9mm is centre-fire. The firing pin wouldn't hit the primer.
