the only way you could do any serous (by that I assume life threatning) is if they are coupled with a poison, which they were back in the day.
But they were only ever made to use as a distraction when fleeing from a foe, throying knives on the other hand can pose as a much more serous threat as they can be throwen with much greater force.
I used to make throwing knives from offcuts from the plasma cutter at work which were in such a perfect shaep that it was scary, all I needed to do was sharpen it.

About the coconut/tater cannon. One. whene we build tatter cannons we dont really go for accuracy we just want something to shoot tatters across the yard. We rarely target practice with them, so I wouldent be worried about accuracy.
Two. For a air tight seal, just wrap the coconut in an old shirt and stuff it down there.
Three. I wouldent use it to shoot any person because a tatter will hurt. A coconut will injure. Have you ever tried to break open a coconut by throwing it agaisnt something? Its hard as shit. So I doubt it will just break and cover who your shooting at with milk. It'll take their head off. If you shot a brick wall or tree or somethin hard it might break though.

Carrying large amounts of flammable liquid on your back in a plastic container... erm... perhaps a modified barrel or something made out of thick metal, with some metal pipes.

Nice idea, but wouldnt the wooden bat split when you start nailing a fuck load of nails into it? You may want to use some sort of band placed around the bat to hold it together if it slpits. Back in the days people would heat up a ring of metal so that it would expand, then slide it over whatever object they were working with and cool it down so that it fitted tightly.

Ash is fine for Baseball Bats but sucks as a weapon of choice in extended battle.Poplar would be more suited for club making also having a thicker handhold area would be best. The grain density in Poplar allows a flex factor so it would last several more blows to the enemy.

I'll keep this in mind. The ring idea would not only be effective but look really awesome as well. It's not something I would want to be carrying around - maybe home defense? Though big swingy weapons aren't so great in say a corridor, and my house is full of them. It'll probably hang on my bedroom wall (not above where I sleep though, eeergh) and if anyone asks, it's my zombie weapon. Everybody's gotta have one.

I'm not sure if was an official cannon, or just a weird ass gun, but a few years ago my friends and I build a 30 some foot long pvc "gun". it had a 25 foot long pvc pipe for the barrel (3/4 inch diameter), and like a 5 or 6 foot pvc pipe combustion chamber (6 inch diameter). Using serious glue, we placed a screw closing on the back and drilled 2 holes about 4 inches apart on the chamber. Putting screws into the holes so that the ends on the inside of the chaber were close to touching, we hooked the screws up to a sparker off an old BBQ. That was our ignition. then we filled the chamber with propane, screwed a lid on the back, placed a metal ball bering in the back of the barrel/front of the combustion chaber, and hit the sparker. massive kickback, and dangerous as hell. didn't always shoot, and it took us time to get the oxygen to propane ratio perfect, but when we got it working, it would put the ball bering though 4 or 5 cinderblocks. we had to rig up some 2x4's to keep the barrel as strait as possible. I don't recomend doing this. We have some scars from it.

I was going to say this in a rep point message but it wouldent let me give you any rep. What I was going to say was im glad some people read my posts. And the metal ring would work very well but unless you have a little experiance metal working it'd be hard as shit to get right.

well today i made a blow gun out of a peice of pipe in electronics class and shot capicitors out of it,, i charged one and shot n it hit my frend in the face:P

I used to make somthing similar for hunting flies in summer. Cut the tip off a shoelace and stick a pin through it and it makes for a nice little dart. I used both a blow gun and also fired it out of my air rifle at my mate. Lol.

I recently made an old timey sling shot. Not the stretchy ones. The way its made is two long leather straps. About like two shoe strings. Then in the middle of the two straps is a wider piece of thin leather (the pocket) you put a rock in there. Hold the end of the strings swing it around. Then let go of one string and the rock will fly out really fast. Heres kinda what it looks like.

you can make a sick flame thrower by filling a water gun with lighter fluid and shooting it, i made one and my neighbor( a little kid) saw and told his father he saw a volcano, lol i got in trouble

Bahr: Are you any good with the aforementioned sling? I'm sure it's plenty powerful, but strikes me as being difficult to aim.

For those who recall the David/Goliath story, you might want to bear in mind that David was a young man at the time, not the little kid that storybooks make him out to be. His sling didn't throw pebbles either - slingers used rocks up to fist size. The Roman army used slingers to back up other troops.

Im ok with the sling. I can hit a foam archery target from about twenty feet with it. And note I said hit the target, Not hit it any where near the middle. It takes a hell of alot of practice though.

im in a welding school and ive made a few differint blades out of some scrap sheat metal and a dagger out of rebar theres a lot of nice tools here and its really not that hard to make a really nice knife

I was thinking of making some kink of blade that strapped to your arm. So when you swing you can break a jaw and slit a throat at the same time. No, im kidding abought that I just want them to have and look cool. But if it came down to it...

Next, this is a bit off topic because its not home made but I have a chance to get brass knuckles engraved with the sons of anarchy symbal. I think they would be nice as hell but they have a bit of a price to em.

My dad once told me how it the 60's they used to make a weapon out of an old car aeriel,they would cut off the aeriel at the base and polish it,so it closed and opened smoothly,then cut off the very top of the aeriel (the ball) and flaten it with a hammer,then sharpen with a file and blade sharpening stone.
He also said that some people also used to put a lead weight in the end before you hammer the end,they can then be used to stab and cut someone and it fits in your pocket or up your sleeve,it's also easy to through it away.
Sounds a nasty bit of kit and a bit like what you're after Bahr.
