EMP electro magnetic pulse

i doubt anyone has ever made one of these that was able to fry anything besides an RFID.i was kinda wondering how to make one. i'm not quite sure how it works but i want a big one not a tiny one and what i should consider if i were to make one. BTW this is for a class.my freind said that he was doing this thing in class were you have to look at things logically and pretty much play detective. this weeks homework was to find out who made an emp bomb and who killed the guy in the mansion. one of the things was finding out what the bomb was made out of and some people have come up with really stupid ideas. anyways my freind plans on bringind a scale model that will be a cut out of a miniature EMP. and i always wanted to set one off. he said he wanted to make one about 12 inches long the model i mean.but i think an EMP would be much bigger. and so far nobody has any idea how it works. his group of 5 picked him to do that part and he asked me for help this project is due wensday.and his group might not present their ideas til friday so please some replies would be nice

i forgot to explain the detective story thing of the emp and the mansion anyways they put an emp next to a transforumer or next to the power plant i forget andyways it screwed up the power left the city powerless and they did this to kill a rich guy with a good security system in his home. they know this because of the footprints being the same at the plant or transformer being the same then there was a knife left at the murder scene and one just like it left at the plant. so it was the emp that was assigned to my freind theres alot more to the story i just remember that bit and no this isnt a plan i have to kill a guy who lives in a mansion in case any of you are thinking that

I talked about this subject in my post titled "HERF GUNS & EMPTy BOMBS". I also provided a source for the building plans and components. EPMT devices are capable of destroying (read FRYING) everything electronic in its path. So be prepared for lawsuits if you set this thing off, maybe even jail time-- the power company will be able to figure out exactly where it came from.

I built a little device that used three coils of wire where the middle was running in the opposite direction to fry one of those little 'tamagachi' toys. It was way too big to be practical for anything other than being a conversation starter. Basically running a shitload of juice through thinly insulated copper wire. Through the natural EM any transmission of electricity gives off, you have a small EM field. The device I have was about twice the size of a coffee mug and needed a pair of 12V batteries to run. It overheated in less than a minute so it got friend pretty soon after the first test.

There's no real practical way to do it unless you have either a nuclear reactor and a way to 'bounce' magnetic fields or you detonate a nuke a few km above your target.

well i have some bad memories researching that... But it can be done i have with me 2 modells the small one ( pocket size ) get a 1/2 mt radius action but the power source is hard ( expensive) to maintaing. The big one is not been proved yet ... - u need some electrical wire not much, a cilindrcal neodyum magnet (normal ones work too). An 555 ic , a capacitor , many batteries(9v r fine) and something to protect the ic from the EMP itself.

-U can find the circuit in wikipedia named "alternator" I think... (The switcher thing is actually the 555)
