Work problems

Hey guys im having a problem with my job you see every once and a while my manager tells me to take the garbage outside to the dumpster and obviously throw everything out but recently theres been these kids aging 10-15 that keep coming by and tearing up all the bags and pouring the garbage everywhere as you can imagine this is making my job a lot hard because i have to pick everything up. this has been happening for a few weeks and ive told my manager he told me to try and catch one of the kids so i ran after the chubbier one and grabbed a hold of him and he pulled one of those packing knives on me whatever their called their like a razor...you guys know.
Anyways he pulled it out and said he was going to slash me if i didnt let him go so i let him go because his friends came back to see what happened to him and i really didnt feel like fighting a group of kids im 17 and not really that strong i told my manager about the knife incident and he just said "call the police then" and i mean the police are useless by the time they get there the kids are gone the police station is about 30 mins away so im asking
How can i scare these kids off or get them to leave me alone the reason i posted this in weaponry and combat is because i was thinking maybe i should get a knife to scare them off im not sure but guys just get me some ideas flowing

I wouldn't recommend getting a knife of your own, they're kids with knives in groups, mob mentality x testosterone x blades = you getting stabbed.

Call the police and leave it at that. If the police don't do anything its not your problem. Don't get killed for some minimum wage paying prick. If he says anything about it tell him to shove his job and walk out.

Your manager's an idiot. Employee safety should be a major concern.

Are they actually just "trashing" the trash, or are they going through it?

Secure the dumpsters (chains and locks)....

Suggest to the "manager" to install video surveillance around the company perimeter (including full view of the trash area), and sufficient lighting if it doesn't already exist. Film the little razor-wielding monkeys while they sling their shit, and if you go to confront them make sure that is recorded as well.

Defending yourself is an issue of reach.

Having an "innocent" object (with value as a defensive weapon and having a greater reach than them) unobtrusively, but conveniently, laying nearby should help to keep them at bay, or even the odds some if they're feeling froggy.

Unless you're talking real gangbangers here (doubt it), the first armed one you clock should set the others on their heels. Most kids, even here, ain't "the shit"... they just talk it.

Keep a baseball bat near the door, it will always bet a knife. Also your safety is the managers responsibility.

Register for a hunting liscense and buy a shotgun, then just keep it somewhere where you can get it before taking the trash out. After you take it out, hide and wait for them , when they come, whip out the shotgun. Don't shoot them, just scare them. shoot into the air to show you mean business. they should run and hopefully won't some back. mabye even buy a similar looking bb gun and tear off the orange thing then shoot one.

And if they do attack him he shoots one and gets arrested for murder? They are the ones defending themselves because he pulled the gun on them, you don't bring a gun to a knife fight. And how is he supposed to explain what he was hunting when he has a shotgun (with a hunting licence) at work in the middle of a town?

Also, is it not illegal to shoot a gun in a public area when not for your own protection?

If anything get a licence for a pistol and a permit to conceal it on your person. That way he just has to flash the gun, or pull it if he must.

Best thing would just call the police and then you don't have to worry about it. You've done your job, if the manager wants to get rid of them its up to him.

If he was going to he would have simply acted on impulse and did it. Seems to me like these kids are just hooligans.

Just beat the shit out of one of them and they won't be back.

It is one thing to be able to pull a knife, and a whole another thing to stab someone. Trust me it is the last thing they want to do. All you have to do is make sure when you hit them that you don't get your hand cut as the rase their hands to protect themselves.

if they were really goin to satb you,it doesnt hurt,it just burns a little,but anyways,just smash him the hardest you can in the temple or jugular,it will drop him,than just drag his ass in to your work,and tell your boss,but also doin this can end badly if there more or them than you,you could end up gettin jumped,so just get a bat or pipe,if you have to gun and that will take care of them

I'm 100% serious here: pay a friend to paintball the shit out of all of them when they come. There is no way they will take that beating.

Or it might piss them off and make them break a window.

Another option is getting a little canister of pepper spray, these can be lifted at a bunch of hardware stores.
Then just have it ready and spray and disarm one of them. Once the cops and their parents make them tell on their friends the gang mentality will be no more.

The latter is probably the better idea.

If you would rather involve the police; surveillance cameras might be overkill. The next time you are confronted by them simply take a photo. Odds are they live nearby and this would put them off. If they rock up call the cops and give them the photo. Throwing garbage around is nothing but turning knives on people is out of line, especially at 10-15 (wtf?).

It's really not worth trying to rough them up. Your outnumbered and up against a bunch of idiots with knives. Any attempt to hurt them and they could easily wait for you around the back.

Lone Gunman is right. If the kid was going to cut you, he would have cut you - not given you warning about cutting you.

Knife fighting is alot harder than they make it look in the movies and box cutters (knives designed to be easily snapped) are certainely not ideal knife fighting weapons - meaning your intruder is inexperienced.

To your own admission, you're not very strong. Well, this rules out knife fighting all together. A knife is only as strong as the force behind it, if you're weak, so is the knife.

Solutions

Prevention:
As stated before, just lock the freakin' dumpsters.

Deterrent:
Go to your local Wal-mart or craft store and buy a bottle of red (dark blue, or black also work) fabric dye. After the garbage is in the bags, empty the bottle of dye inside - this functions as an improvised dye pack. If they open the bags, they'll be splattered with dye that can't be removed for several days.
Repeat the process until they stop coming back.

Note: I prefer red dye for the psychological advantage of having people they meet make jokes about being "caught red handed" doing something wrong. It's a great bonus given the lack of additional effort.

Pepper spray is a good idea, but it has to be in your hand at the time. A small handheld camcorder would be better. Do not give chase, just film them and give a copy to the police.

You're 17, they are 10-15. So if you seriously harm them (pepperspray, bb gun, etc) then I'd say the chance is high the kid's mum will sue you or something.
By the way, what kind of kids are they? real punks, or just some kids who get bored after school?

You could get a baseball bat and hit one of them. Don't break his bones, just bruise. It'll scare them.

these kids sound like just a bunch of punks who arent as hard as they say. when dealing with kids like these often walking out holding a camera will scare them far more than walking out with a bbgun or bb bat

Well me, I'd scare them.. really bad. You know the sycological way. Stalking them every day.. phoning them and not saying a word.. But I don't think your boss would enjoy watching you eat fake guts and tell them you'll eat theirs... and bringing out a chainsaw... that would get you fired.. at the least.

Camcorder will scare them pretty bad. They don't like their picture taken. So for you, a camera.. for other people.. chainsaw and fake guts.

If you had the ability to produce a tripwire that sets off a relatively loud device such as an m-80 you could use it to scare them off, I bet they wont ever go near the garbage bins again. If you do use this make sure it's in a position that wont injure or burn them though.

Dress as chewy from star wars and hide in the bin around there usual time of stupid senseless vandalism. When they open the bin they'll be scared shitless when you jump out. Get a friend to record it. Then post it on youtube. Once it has been posted make fliers and post them around the place, and in all the local schools of course! maybe have a freeze frame of the clip with there faces on it. If it works, they kids would really be so embarrassed they wouldn't come back, and all there mates would take the piss outta them with nobody getting hurt...... maybe in an ideal world xD but hell, its an idea.
