-- Posted by Reaper on 7:38 pm on Mar. 17, 2002 yo i was wonderin if anybody knew how 2 make an electro magnet. you know like for magnetising stuff????

In order to make an electro-magnet you take a material that can be magnetized and you shape in such a way that it doesn't make a full circuit (it doesn't go around in a full circle).

this has nothing to do with electro magnets but i just realised sumthin. there are alot of geniuses in different subjecst. for instance i noticed justonepepsi know alot about science and probably alot more but i haven't checked all threads just mine. im glad there is a site like this so all of us can share our knowledge. oh yeah hey i found this link if you wanna punt people offline. just copy and paste it into an IM with a hyper link. and you know say its like click here for a free ps2 or sumthin. what happens is it creates about 365 pop up windows, and does two things. either 1, freezez up the pc, or just plain down restarts it right when they click it. have phun with it. heres the link http://www.importprodukte.de/html/ht_halt.html im glad to share this knowledge with you people.

-- Posted by markyadeadhomie on 5:29 am on Mar. 18, 2002 so if i strapped a car battery in a backpack and had a huge spike wrapped with the proper amopunt of coils would this created a good enough electro magnetic feild to say wreak havoc on blockbuster (wink wink)
-- Posted by preditor on 5:56 am on Mar. 18, 2002 I bet it would at least be enough to make the movies safe to take out of the store without the alarm going off
-- Posted by Reaper on 10:52 am on Mar. 18, 2002 im talking about really strong electro magnets but small enough so i can fuck around with it without being noticed. I heard something about gameworks or jillians (arcade places where you use cards instead of coins) and since the cards have magnetic strips you could get games. you know how 2 make sumthin like that?
-- Posted by Digital Mage on 1:06 pm on Mar. 18, 2002
Well as far as the arcade machines go you can't use and electro magnet to get free games since magnetic strips does not work in the same order. Only thing you could do with a electro magnet would be to uncharge a magnetic strip. But ill take a look at it for you and see if I can come up with a plan to get free games.
-- Posted by Zambosan on 2:21 pm on Mar. 18, 2002 By necessity, you're going to need a rather large electromagnet to damage electronic/magnetic equipment at a long distance. Electric field strength falls off as the inverse square of the distance. And if you applied a magnetic field to a blockbuster tape, you might not set off the alarm, but you'd also have a tape full of random crap... ever heard of a bulk eraser? :)

-- Posted by Zambosan on 10:01 am on Mar. 21, 2002 Creating a coil causes the magnetic flux generated at any given region of the wire to constructively interfere with that of its neighboring "turns", increasing the flux density. Wrapping around a core with high magnetic permeability has the effect of concentrating the flux further, since the magnetic field will prefer to expand in the direction of least resistance, and free space has a relatively low permeability. Ferromagnetic materials like iron and ferrite are common.
-- Posted by xenonalieninfo on 9:25 pm on April 2, 2002 try wraping copper around the iron instead of other shit

You could also use a Hi-fi speaker.
-- Posted by Arsinic on 9:34 am on April 4, 2002 If I was to insulate the coaled nail and weld another nale to it that cam out of the insulation with no coil would it be just as strong?
