-- Posted by sendog on 5:35 pm on Feb. 7, 2002 I dont know if it exist but in the film godzilla this guy puts these things in the ground and all these worms come up and I think it is eletric, but if they do exist does anybody know how to make it.

I don't think he was using the electronic thing to get them up. When it rains worms come up to the surface so they don't drown underground. The electronic thing was to study how they were growing abnormally large.
-- Posted by bigboom on 9:45 pm on Feb. 7, 2002 it was a small currant of elect. the worms do rise to rain but also to electrical currants most creatures do respond to elect. than any other stimulant, don't know how to make though
-- Posted by Zambosan on 9:42 am on Feb. 8, 2002 Apparently a good number of people have electrocuted themselves with these things... there was a pretty large recall of "Worm Getters". Worms will also respond to vibration... a common trick is to jam an ax handle into the ground, and rub the handle between your hands with some rosin on your palms. The vibration irritates the worms enough to seek refuge somewhere else. You could use a small motor with an offset load attached to a spike to try this method. I've personally never done this, so I can't comment on how effective it would be.

in frank herbert's 'dune' the fremen use some sort of 'bumpers' to draw the shai'hulud's (worm's) attention towards them. so one might think it works - somehow.

well, dunno if this helps ya but i've seen some chemical pills that are put into a bucket and then flooded with water.. when the bucket is full and the mix drops into the earth worms SHALL come outta all around :)
-- Posted by balor on 4:21 pm on Feb. 8, 2002 There are plans online for the worm thing. It definitely does exist. You see plans and kits in electronic magazines

Well i got some info for you on this "worm getter". It was recalled in 1993 for causing 30 some deaths. How it is made is basically a metal rod with wires attatched to it that sends 110 to 120 volts alternating current from the household electricity. Then you would stick it in the ground turn the baby on and Bam it would be working.
-- Posted by balor on 2:16 pm on Feb. 9, 2002 The people dont get killed from touching the ground they get killed from whats known as step voltage. If a person takes a step they create an alternate path for the current to flow. This largely effects animals such as cows with their large pace.Keeping ones feet together or hopping on one foot. This is what I have to do if I encounter an electricty line down. When its on the ground the same principle is apparent.

use rubber boots and maybe coat them with second-adhesive and/or insulating tape.
-- Posted by Zambosan on 10:55 am on Feb. 11, 2002 The device would need a current limiter at a minimum; just a stake tied to AC wouldn't work... you'd blow your breaker or fuse in a matter of milliseconds. Too much current would also cook the worms, methinks. The largest hazard would exist in relatively dry ground, where the increased resistance would result in a much stronger electric field, and greater electric potential per unit of distance.
