hey ppl ive checked the whole site, to no avail,im lookin for a way to extract the other contaminants from isocol to get pure isopropyl(is there a way)

You know, I am not sure, but it may be possible to dystil the alcohol to make it more concentrated and rid it from any contaminants. If you want a good website about that go to http://cator.hsc.edu/~kmd/caveman/projects/alcohol/
-- Posted by Zambosan on 2:21 pm on Feb. 19, 2002 If you are starting with a mixed alcohol mixture, good luck. In the states, they intentionally "denature" ethyl alcohol with methyl alcohol to make it poisonous instead of "moonshine", pure grain alcohol. The two substances are so close in boiling point that it is prohibitively expensive to separate them in any great quantity... so economically speaking, you'd be better off paying the exorbitant federal excise tax on the booze. If, however, you're dealing with water and isopropanol, you may be able to distill off a fair amount of the alcohol of a considerable purity by watching the temperature carefully. Judging by the taste, I'd say your biggest problem is some kind of perfume added to the crap to make it smell better as a disinfectant... that would *probably* be removed as well if it is a light oil (like most aromatic substances), with a boiling point above that of alcohol.

cheers zam..so in theory once the alcohol is reduced from the mix, leaving only contaminants (being like a perfume) so when the alcohol has gone it would only concentrate the perfume*am i right* so ill always hava funky flavoured hash recipe!!??¿¿spewin,so if u can use isopropyl,is there any other flavour(lol scuse the joke) of alcohol that would have the results as isopropyl?? thanks guys fer the help

You need to collect the alcohol as it evaporates: use a rubber stopper with a tube attached to the top of the container with the original isocol in it. Run the tube into a container in an ice bath. As the alcohol vapor cools, it will will condense, leaving you with high(er) purity isopropanol. The longer you boil the original solution, the more volume of distillate you'll get, but the water and other impurities will eventually begin to evaporate too, so it's a tradeoff between cost-efficiency and purity.
