Petrol vapours are flammable, not the liquid! Petrol would explode if you atomised it - a good example is an atomised particle explosion - a high explosive (TNT for example) detonated under a barrel of petrol or highly flammable liquid. The petrol would disperse like when using one of those water spray guns watering a plant - these atomised particles will then be ignited by the detonated TNT. Hard to explain when am in a state to go to bed, maybe i'll write something up for you all sometime. Ok, remember than gun powder is a propellant - it burns, and it explodes in a cylinder because its expanding gases from the burning powder expand so quickly that it ruptures the container. Right, for the propellant to under-go full combustion it MUST NOT be packed!!! The resulting mixture can be light by safety fuse and burns intensely. THERMITE FUEL-AIR EXPLOSION: This is a very dangerous device. It is next to impossible to give any dimensions of containers or weights of charges because of the availability of parts changes from one person to the next. However here is a general description of this device affectionately known as a HELLHOUND. Make a thermite charge in a 1/8 in. wall pipe. This charge must be electrically ignited. At the opposite end of the pipe away from the ignitor side put a small explosive charge of flash powder weighing about 1 oz Drill a small hole in a pipe end cap and run the wires from the ignitor through the hole. Seal the wires and hole up with fuel proof epoxy or cement. Try ferrule cement available at sporting goods stores. Dope the threads of the end caps with a good pipe dope and screw them onto the pipe. This gives you a thermite charge in an iron pipe arranged so that when the thermite is electrically ignited, it will burn from one end to the other finally setting of the flash powder charge. Place this device in a larger pipe or very stout metal container which is sealed at one end. Use a couple of metal "spiders" to keep the device away from the walls or ends of the larger container. Run the wires out through the wall of the container and seal the wires with the fuel proof epoxy. Fill the container with a volatile liquid fuel. Acetone or gasoline works great. Now seal up the container with an appropriate end cap and it is done. The device works like this: Attach a timer-power supply to the wires. When the thermite is ignited it superheats the liquid fuel. Since the container is strong enough to hold the pressure the fuel does not boil. When the thermite burns down to the explosive, it explodes rupturing the container and releasing the superheated fuel. The fuel expands, cooling off and making a fine mist and vapor that mixes with the surrounding air. The hot thermite slag is also thrown into the air which ignites the fuel-air mix. The result is obvious. Try about 1 « lbs of thermite to a gallon of fuel. For the pressure vessel, try an old pressure cooker. Because the fuel may dissolve the epoxy don't keep this device around for very long. The bulb contains a small amount of compressed gas and oxygen to give it a glow. When a "too large" current runs through that small bulb, the energy makes the bulb explode and the gases rush out, this oxidises the petrol within a small area and sends small drops flying out. the petrol ignites and burns shit. Am I right or am I wrong? -- Posted by balor on 3:08 pm on Dec. 7, 2001 As regards the light bulb idea.If you are using a low voltage type applying mains voltage (230 volts) would almost certainly trip the MCB feeding whereever you got supply.If it allowed the bulb to glow it would only be a flicker before it tripped and the filament blowing would be contained by the bulb.Anyway a bulb doesnt contain any oxygen,if it did the filament would oxidise immediately upon heating. Next go outside (important) and hammer a small hole into the closed lid of the tin. Quickly, (otherwise you'll lose the gas) place the tin in a safe area and put a match to the top. It should burn with a small flame for a while until youvwe burnt HALF the gas in the tin. At that point the flame will pop inside the tin and ignite the rest of the gas, causeing a huge bang and shooting the lid of the tin high into the air. Glass is too dangerous, and isn't as loud anyway. Be aware of flying shards of plasitc... they can cut you  just a bad as glass if you're close enough. Trust someone that knows. The delays vary depending on the amount of ingredients used... always wait about 15-20 min if you think it won't explode. I've had one go off about half an hour after I added the foil. A good idea is to shoot the bottle from a distance with a bb/pellet gun if you think it's dead.
