For an excellent uk source of chemicals (ammonium nitrate, KNO3, Potassium permanganate) go herewww.gardendirect.co.uk. Then click the fertilisers button.

what is KNO3?  I've heard alot about it but have no clue what it is

KNO3 = potassium nitrate = saltpetre = salt peter, etc
K = potassium
NO3 = nitrate (nitrogen and oxygen bonded together)

It is an oxidiser (as it contains oxygen) which was used in making black powder in ye olden days, by using compost heaps and wood ashes to make it for use in guns, along with sulphur and charcoal.

It is very useful as it can be used for black powder, meal powder, fuses and smoke bombs, but is now relatively hard to find in the uk as most chemists don't stock it. And compared with some oxidisers it is safe.

For low order explosive making tutorials go to the archives or look back through the forums.

i might b able to get a hold of PbCO3 (lead carbonate) from science soon, i know it will oxidise but will it work well? Are chlorates better?

Sorry, don't know about that, but do you know if there is any way to fake that you are a professional pyrotechnician, as I found this UK site that sells good fuse:
www.diamondfireworks.com
But they say you have to be a pro to buy it, and I don't know of any pyro groups that you can show to prove it, so do I just say I'm damn good at it or what?
