Plastique from air bags

— Posted by aSs BacKWuRds on 11:29 am on April 1, 2002

Someone i no said that you can get plastique from air bags that have not exploded yet. If this is true which i don’t think it is let me know.

It’s bogus. Forget it.

“Someone i no”

…and you people wondered why I typed the way I did.

HINT: it was possibly to shed light on these little shits who don’t know the first thing about proper spelling or sentence structure.

In air bags there is a small pouch of Sodium/Potassium chlorate and some kind of fuel. This burns to release the gas that fills the bag.I just presume that you just want to salvage the Chlorate and make a Vaseline based plastique or something.

balor, that is genuine 100% bull shit.

There is sodium azide in airbag things to fill them. Sodium azid is extremely poisonous but useful for makeing lead azide.

I saw someone take one of those things apart once and all we found was a gas bottle and a burst valve. I suppose it depends on model. They’re probably phasing out the chemically fired airbags for this very reason…

They’re the big pillow things that pop out of the steering wheels of modern cars when you get into an accident. I’m sure you’ve seen one on TV.

The newer model airbags are designed to use gas cylinders instead of fuel+oxidisers.
This is because the older airbags would suffocate small children because they did not deflate well.
The gas cylinders have a special valve that releases a few seconds after the initial blast which provides means for deflation.
I dunno if all this is true, my mind is kinda numb at the moment, but if you want to steal airbags to make bombs, you’ll need to

A) run around looking for old cars that haven’t been in any accidents, or;
B) build a time machine.

Wouldn’t small explosives in bubble wrap kinda break whatever its trying to protect?

Ohhhhhhhh, now i see, yes i know what they r, mines went off once and popped in my face! put my fist through the windscreen in that crash.

actually, some airbags have shotgun shell type things in em.
they have a spring loaded and shit. they get in a wreck and the spring gets released. i saw that on tv the other day. i was told that by a cop in drivers ed. too but i didnt believe it till i saw the tv show that showed the shit.

There was a book before by Ragnar Benson I think. It explained that detonators could be made from the contents of airbags.A mechanic told me before that they do exist.I dunno if any cars still have them.

I think the gas cylinder and “shotgun shell type things” are the only ones being mass produced at present.
Another reason is that when you get in a wreck and your airbag is used, you can just replace the mechanism off the shelf, whereas with fuel-oxidiser you’ll probably need a license for.
But wouldn’t it be downright cool if you built a time machine?
