Potassium nitrate

— Posted by ilovekayla on 6:01 pm on Feb. 2, 2002

I’m a begginer so bear with me… I know that it can be used to make smoke bombs and fuses but what else can it be used for?

— Posted by Hergor on 8:22 pm on Feb. 2, 2002

usually potassium nitrate is used for making anything that can be vaguely described as ‘blackpowder’

i don’t know any other use for it

maybe as a basis for other nitrates but those would be easier to obtain from conventional fertilizers

thanks

Your really testing my patience with making new threads on such kewl matters but since you are indeed a newb i will bear with you, potassium nitrate, aka: salt petre and KN03 is used for a whole multitude of things, like making nitric acid, and as hergor said blackpowder, but instead of asking what it is used for, why not just read some recipes and such to find out!

Im sorry man… I dont know i really like the site and what its used for…. so ill try to cut down… once again im sorry..

gees man, get a spine. stand by what u say or don’t say it at all.
KN03 makes a cool poison, to poison the bastards of course.

Yep.. eat too much KNO3, and the nitrate will reduce to nitrite in your gut.  It will then be happily absorbed into your bloodstream, and bind quite permanently to the hemoglobin in your blood cells, rendering them incapable of carrying oxygen anymore.  The condition is called methaemoglobinemia, and is common in third world countries where the water supply is contaminated or where the geniuses use saltpeter as a substitute for salt in food.  Pretty similar to cyanide poisoning (cyanosis) although a lot more nitrate is needed than CN to get you sick.

It is also used for curing meat, ham, bacon etc.Might be worth looking at places that cure meat. You might be able to blag some out of them, just say you are into home curing might work.

— Posted by Hergor on 2:14 pm on Feb. 9, 2002

used for curing meat? didn’t we say above that it is poisonous?

in what way is it used for curing meat?
(what does it do in the process of curing?)

how does it loose its poisonous potential?
(or is it just used in minor doses?)

please explain it…

— Posted by dellexo on 2:38 pm on Feb. 9, 2002

It is used in small doses, look on the side of a pack of ham/bacon and deppending on the brand it will normaly contain pottasium/sodium nitrate saying that, some brands use the nitrite instead which is no good.Sorry i can’t elaborate any further but not being a home curing expert,my knowledge on the subject is now exhausted;)

HEY! we got to help newbies cause some of us forget that we were once newbies too! Anyways, your disrespecting one of the most useful chemicals. KNO3 can be the base for all the explosives you will ever need. But my fact is that “salt peter” is rarely available any more. Look for “Stump Remover” in the garden department of a hard ware store. It’s mostly KNO3. Mix 2 parts stump remover with 1 part sugar and heat until sugar melts, then shovel ur mixture into something flamable, like a papertowel roll and stick a fuse in it. Lite it and run, it burns like a roadflare with lots a smoke.

Now this smoke “bomb” should be used for purely entertainment purposes, but who is to say an entire mall being evacted isn’t entertaining????

Rock on

………..yeah…your right jmb1125….he is gonna get yelled at….

Look “darkie” i have nothing against newbs, but when they insist on posting the same drivel about smoke bombs and other shit like this like they’re the first person too think of it, it tends to get a little trying!!! and if we were to remember the fact that we were all newbs once, this forum would be still discussing this sort of bullshit! and talking about how baking soda and vinegar make a bomb powerfull enough to could blow up a car!!! sure we were newbs, but why revel in this fact? and who said we were disrespecting KN03?! personally i was only condemming this thread, and iluvkayla’s newbness (but this thread was made a fair while ago), other ppl were exchanging recipes, and i’d like too see you evacuate an entire mall from one piddly lil smoke bomb the size of a toiilet roll!!
i suggest you smarten the hell up if you want to remain a member of this forum, and if you cant handle not being a newb, and not posting a smoke bomb recipe everywere you go, then i suggest you try a forum that will welcome your “amazing” recipe with open arms! like queerpier or totse!!

Oh and one last thing for weston, i’m not always angry, infact i’m quite a happy kinda guy, but if your insist on posting shiat like this, your gonna expect to see my angry side!!

— Posted by The Great Milenko on 3:08 am on Feb. 26, 2002

Yeah, well soz about that, it’s hard to tell a newb from a kewl newb when they’re both new 🙂
