Solidox Question

— Posted by OoxHighVoltagexoO on 3:57 pm on Mar. 20, 2002

I didnt really see anything in the Archives or older posts about it so im asking now…I happen to have this stuff they call Solidox…I just read that mixing glucose or sugar to it makes it extremely powerful or wicked to use…I read that if you grind up the solidox sticks into powder and do a 1 to 1 ratio with sugar by weight that it should come out right…Now if all this is true what is best to set it off with and what ways can you use it? cardboard tubes with caps and wick? blasting cap? etc etc etc…Any insight might be helpful on any of the things I listed….later guys…PEACE

Solidox is (was) potassium chlorate. Mixing it with sugar yeilds a manner of flash powder, albeit a friction sensitive one. It can be ignited with a simple flame.

You can’t buy Solidox anymore so you’ll have to resort to other methods of obtaining potassium chlorate. I suggest steering clear of chlorate flash powders anyway – Perchlorates and/or black powder are much safer.

AGREED ZtI. Potassium chlorate flash powder is just way to dangerous. I have personally seen it (thankfully, a small quantity) ignited by STATIC! Stick with p.perchlorate/german blk alum powder-still pretty sensitive, but much less so

Ahhh ok…Well I have some now that my dad and grandfathr used to use for welding I guess…I have about 30 or 40 sticks of it in a bag in the basement…Thanks though..Appreciated…PEACE

you have 30 or 40 STICKS?? Shit! Like I said, keep away from the flash powders, and do not mix it with flowers of sulphur, but there are endless possiblilties for potassium chlorate. It’s really become difficult to score pc, so you are actually pretty lucky to have that supply. Now I don’t know if the age of the pc would make it more, less, or the same level of volitile (Zambosan could probably answer that much more accurately than I can).

Yeah I didnt even know what it was until my dad went to throw them away…My pap used to be a welder and worked for USS Steel..So we have a lot of stuff laying around…whats the best to mix with the Solidox and whats best to blow it off???

First of my soldox says sodium chlorate. My question is, does anyone know what the binder used in the sticks is? Unlike all you guys who want to grind up your solidox, to recover the chems. I have sodium chlorate and want to make more solidox sticks!  Anyway, thanks

just use a inert bonder, I’m not sure what they use read the back, and if you can not make heads or tails put it and we can see what we can do for you but you have to realize that they probably you some shit that you can not get that easy it wouold just use somthing inert, like take AL foil and put it througha coffe grinder for three hours and you that it is not fine enough to burn on it own but you should have it fine enough by then to usefor a binder mix it wax

That was not a helpfull response! First off If it said what it was on the can I wouldn’t have posted this! Second I asked what the binder was , not your bullshit theory on what might work! Third AL powder is neither inert nor a binder!

solidox was NaClo3 not KClo3,next NaClo3 and suger is not a flash powder, a flash powder uses perchlorites and metal fuels such as Mg powder or Al powder,NaClo3/suger is safe to use I have used it in pipebombs, rockets, firecrackers hundreds of times, although I prefer to convert the Naclo3 to Kclo3 as Naclo3 is very hygrosophic
